Thanks Jackson. I am a long time fan. Saw him front row last summer. What a great show. It has been a long time since we had real good stuff from JB. This is the real JB. Go see him if you can. This guy never ages and his stage presence and performing is awesome.

This is the album I have spent decades waiting for. Wonderful songs, beautiful melodies. Almost all new and original songs. The revamped "Birds of st. Marks " is breathtaking! At this point I didn't really think Jackson had a phenomenal album like this in him. Songs you can listen to over and over and over because they are so beautiful with gorgeous melodies! After hearing this I have to wonder what other masterpiece songs he has hidden away inside him. Thank you Jackson Browne for the album that can carry me until eternity!

I saw Jackson on your last weekend and both he and this latest album are timeless works of art. Love several songs off this album including The Birds of St Marks, The Long Way Around, Yeah Yeah, and Standing in The Breach.

As a 24 year old I have to thank my dad for introducing me to the wonderful song writing of Jackson Browne. He's a writer that should be enjoyed by all generations and this album is no exception.

I just listened to Jackson Browne's new album, "Standing in the Breach". I feel like I have to say something, while I know that the inertia and stature of Jackson needs my response to his work even less than does that of Pissarro or Steinbeck. Absent here, for the first time in 2 decades, is the voice of the world's greatest all around guitarist, Mark Goldenberg, Jackson's guitarist and collaborator since the 80's, whom I love dearly and feel has been perhaps, even more of a part of Jackson's work than even the great David Lindley, from the early part of Browne's career. Val McCallum has become the "guitar voice" in a the new Jackson Browne texture, that has always been extremely guitar heavy. Val is a brilliant artist! I have heard him live, both as Jackson's sideman and doing his own stuff. He is amazing!....but.......at first I was hearing all the stuff that Goldenberg should be saying at any moment. But that gives way as you are seduced buy, not only Val's beautiful playing and sound, but quite simply, the music and the ensemble. Until... finally there is just Jackson Browne there, making you care about every note, word, story......and having your care and empathy augmented by the beautiful work of all the artists on in the soundscape....which lives there, just to support his story. I haven't read the credits, but I think I hear virtuoso, Jeff Young contributing his brilliant and perfectly conceived keyboard playing to the mix. But the bottom line is, of course, Jackson Browne! That's what all the work and players and singing come down to. His writing. His singing. His producing. His compassion and his willingness to bare his findings about life with all of us strangers. There is nothing better than Jackson Browne sharing his life's findings, his concerns, his compassion and his love, through the mericle of his musical geniuss. "Standing in the Breach" is a masterpiece. michael chapdelaine

Wow, I am late to this party. A week ago I finally found and purchased the latest from Jackson. It put an extended smile on my face. Frankly, I like everything about this CD - the lyrics (no surprise), the diversity of content that holds together, the competent back up band, and the outstanding production. But most of all, I just love the songs. Best non-live CD from Jackson in a long, long time. Would I rate this with the early years? Yes. I would love to hear him play this stuff live, since he is without question one of the most accomplished liver performers that I have ever seen (and I am one year older that Jackson). Birds of St. Marks takes on a whole new feel and meaning. This music is a treat. I want the old and loyal fans to give it a listen, and I encourage the uninitiated to also give it a try. This is a true artist at work, more reflective and more creative than we have seen him in years.

I am a huge Jackson Browne fan, I have all his music on “8 track and cassette and stereo” but something seems to have happened after 1983, all his music seams to be the same, just with different words, depressing words. To me his earlier music was about hope, peace, and life, today the words are depressing and the music melancholy. The Birds of St. Marks is a retread of an old song that never made an earlier LP. I think mainly because it is not as good a the stuff he released back in the day. This song however is one of the better songs on Standing in the Breach, so what does that tell you. Yeah Yeah is boring along with the almost the rest of the LP. The one really promising song is Leaving Winslow. The strange thing about this song is that instead of bring back memories of the girl in a flatbed Ford, he sings about an man and an oxygen tank. But the music of this song is so Jackson Browneish, that maybe this is a sign that he is ready to come out of his 30 year funk. The LP is a must for Jackson Browne followers, but for newbies, listen to the pre 1984 stuff.

The old days are gone . . . JBs good buddy John Edwards might appreciate all this stuff again from the tired left, but after the results of the elections Nov. 2014, they are all just drifting away now. So long, friends.
