It will speak to you earnestly. Reverberates with the sadness of loss, but somehow makes you feel more alive when you're done listening to it.

This is JB at his finest, coming after great sadness & tragedy in his personal life. Each song is a gem, presenting different facets of his (and our) strengths and frailties. I love this album.

I have followed JB's entire career & prefer this CD to all others. I know many may think his early, more popular work were his best but I strongly disagree. Although I really appreciate his songs on other CD's related to current affairs (politics), this CD is more about his personal life. I read JB claimed this CD's theme had nothing to do with his break up with Daryl Hannah but it appears to me the lyrics of these songs tell otherwise. The bottom line is I could & have listened to this CD countless times & it never grows old on me.

... may well be the two best ballad lyricists of their generation. This album (I'm Alive) is a remarkable paradox of sadness and remorse set to up-beat tempos. Kudos to JB.

Say what you want about comebacks, this album resonates with the Jackson Browne voice and lyrics that have always spoken to me. The song "Sky Blue and Black" is a poet's voice with a quality rarely found in other songs that found their way to the top 40.
