Regardless, something brought you here and good for you. I love this album. Señor is the perfect song to play when you're just following the road. Changing Of The Guards and pretty much every other song have a happier beat to them. Beautiful work. I can't get enough of this man.

I love the gospel era and all the albums on each end of that time period. This album is a sleeper for many Dylan fans, they know of it but have not dived deep into - big mistake. What strikes me about this record is the number of songs that are absolute top notch Dylan. If you do not like the backing gospel singers look elsewhere; personnally for me they bring it and add to the overall landscape of the time period, mood and serious lyrics of many of the tunes. Some intrespective stuff here with Bob looking back on himself and commenting on the poisions of excess "New Pony" he sings "that God you've been praying to gonna give you back what you wish on someone else". The epic Dylan songs on this record are New Pony, Senor, Changing of the Guard and Where Are You Tonight (Journey Through Dark Heat)....songs that root deep in your DNA. The other songs are above average to just short of great but all have their merits.
  • One of his best.

I agree that the album is not up there with the classics of his first decade, but it certainly is underrated. The songs have good variety and melody. The band is very tight. “Where Are You Tonight”? is one of my favorite Dylan songs, and I have been a true fan since 1965.
  • B-list Dylan; maybe C-list

Anyone who gives this album five stars has no sense of proportionality. What would you give “Blood on the Tracks” or “Blonde on Blonde” or “Highway 61 Revisited”? Fifty stars? ‘Cause they’re 10 times better than this set. The worse thing is the female backing singers. They just get unbearable after a while.
