  • Maybe Dylan could have pulled this off earlier

I've been a huge Dylan fan since the 1960's. His unique voice has usually suited his message well. Every once in a while he has huge flop (remember "Self Portrait," anyone?). This is another flop, in my opinion. Maybe when Dylan was younger and his voice was just nasal and strange, this could have worked. Now his voice sounds so raspy and grating I'm tempted to wonder if he has throat cancer. There's no melody here. These songs should be left to artists who can still sing.

I disliked this when it came out, and forgot about it, but just revisited this Christmas and now really enjoy it. A great album, and fine addition to his more recent music making. Must be Santa!
  • So horrible that I love to hate it

I have had this on my comedy Christmas playlist for years. Bob is really, really horrible with mistaken lyrics, voice like he just finished his third pack of cigarettes this morning, and unable to hit most of the correct notes. Yes, he is an American cultural icon. But he makes his cheesy backup singers seem downright choral. That said, I listen to this album every year and laugh myself silly. I use it as an example to others of how not to perform. It is addictive in small portions. I have recently found another artist's Christmas album that rivals Bob's -- Cassie Ramone's Christmas in Reno is really poorly mixed, oddly harmonized and is a perfect match to Bob's album. Check them both. They are addictive in their non holiday genre.

This is exactly what it should be: the first album for fans of music, that loathe holiday music. It takes all the sickly sweet and soulless Christmas tunes, and bathes them in bourbon. It’s the elderly poet serenading those that are often left out of the holiday joys. The imagery he invokes on these songs is vastly greater than anything the auto-tune and plastic pop stars could ever hope to pretend to make. Dylan is an artist, learn to appreciate the art, or go back to listening to Mariah shatter glass.

Love this album, it is one of my favorite holiday albums of all time. You have not lived until you've heard Bob sing silver bells. Keep being awesome because we love you! 🌟
