True MM classic, perhaps their best in my book. Buy this, then Good News, see how much has changed (though not in a bad way). I suggest Gravity Rides Everything (so... CATCHY!), Tiny Cities Made of Ashes (bass line is sweet), Different City, Stars Are Projectors, Wild Pack of Family Dogs, I Came As A Rat, and Paper Thin Walls, but everything is good.

I can't believe I'm the first person to write a review on this album. I love this album for its unique originality, all shown through these songs: Lives, A Different City, Paper Thin Walls, The Cold Part, I Came as a Rat, and Perfect Disguise. No it may not be their best album but it's one of my favorites. Everyone buy this album if you really enjoy listening to Modest Mouse!

I like this albulm. It has good songs you don't hear on the radio. And the song ( LIFE LIKE WEEDS) is more like a story then a song. That is one of the reasons I like modest mouse. They always say "we" and not "I" . You hear a lot of artists singing " I had this blah blah blah" and " I loved you back when we were lovers" stuff like that. But when I listen to MM I feel lke I am on a ride with them. I know I know in the sone (life like weeeds) he says " I could have told you all that I love you" so don't point that out. It is not MM's best album but it is in the top 3......

my favorite album - b/c it is really the first album by modest mouse. sure lonesome crowded west was great - it is my second favorite album of modest mouse's - but it wasnt really an album, just more of a collection of great songs. all the songs on the moon & antartica really show what this album is about - life and space. you should really listen to the whole album to get the feel for it (you wont be disappointed), but the top 3 songs in my opinion are gravity rides everything, paper thin walls, 3rd planet. tiny cities made of ashes is cool too. but really the whole album is perfect

I remember my first encounter with Modest Mouse was seeing their music video for "Float On" on tv. I fell in love with the band. After listening to Good News For People Who Love Bad News for a while I decided I needed more. I found this and it blew me away. This, in my opinion, is Modest Mouse at their best. My favorites from this album are "Paper Thin Walls," "A Different City," and "Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes."

"The Moon & Antarctica is flawed". Thats what the above review says in the last line. That is a joke. This is Modest Mouse's masterpiece. Every song is a sweeping stroke of genius and whoever does not own this album should not allowed to listen to any music until they have heard it. Please dont believe iTunes.

I'm not much of a Modest Mouse fan but this album is great. Every song is song is good and the album really flows. It should be listened to a a whole and not individual songs One of my favorite albums ever.

I have a real hard time deciding if this or the Lonesome Crowded West is Modest Mouse's best album. This hits me a lot more emotionally than any other of their cds, probably because of the gloomy, other-worldly atmosphere that the songs create. 3rd Planet is one of the greatest songs Modest Mouse has ever created and I can't see why that song isn't just as popular as Float On. Gravity Rides Everything and Dark Center of the Universe are both solid as well, with Dark Center winning out because of the great guitar riffs and lyrics especially in the chorus. Perfect Disguise is a nice interlude into the middle part of the album, which contains the offbeat song Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, one of my least favorite songs until I saw the band play it live- awesome! A Different City weaves back and forth between high speed guitar riffs and slow melodic singing. The Cold Part and Alone Down There are like companion songs, each bringing a strange, isolated, and desperate feeling about them. Then comes the deeply introspective The Stars Are Projectors which fully immerses the listener into the world that The Moon and Antartica creates, and leads into the last and best portion of the album. Wild Packs of Family Dogs is the shortest, but most disturbing song on the album with lyrics that send shivers up your spine. Paper Thin Walls and I Came As a Rat are gems that stand right up there with 3rd Planet and are better than almost every other song on the album. Life Like Weeds is also a lyrical and atmospheric standout, and What People Are Made Of closes out the album with a chaotic bang. Best songs are 3rd Planet, Paper Thin Walls, I Came As a Rat, Life Like Weeds, and Dark Center of the Universe, but this album is truely worth being listened to from start to finish.
