Reviews

  • Historical but not satisfying

Well, I’m glad I got a chance to hear a MSJ show but he must have been under immense pressure and it shows. His playing is sloppy and I believe not that great of a presentation of what he could do. It’s just not very good except in a couple spots. On the older material Mark sounds really out of his element. Ultimately the right choice was made to make Bruce a permanent member. It would seem Paul and Gene did a poor job hiring him in the first place. Had his hand not blown up, I think his time still would have been short. Not a good fit for the band. Bottom line: I can not recommend this

I underdstand that this is a historical recording because it has Mark St. John playing. But for me, I feel the tempo of the songs is to fast. Paul's vocals are all over the place. Heavy set list of Creatures, Lick It Up, and Animalized. Only 5 classic Kiss songs. Of the "KISS Off The Soundboard" recordings, this one is the weakest in the series.
  • Real Live sounds real live

People complained about the “enhanced” versions of Alive 1 snd II and now we get complaints about the real deal. To be able to hear Mark St John live is a true treat. Kiss fans like Dead fans love the live stuff, the band in their element.

I’ve been loving the Soundboard series, and this album is no exception. This only gets four stars for two reasons. First, we cannot cut our reviews by half star increments. Second, “Young and Wasted” is badly edited. I understand the original recording may have gotten damaged over the years. Look, this tour was almost forty years ago. Magnetic tape degrades and falls apart, I get that. But, the song doesn’t even get into the first chorus when the late Mark St. John’s guitar solo starts going. It throws off the groove. Perhaps the band could have faded the track out and then back in so we know there was a problem with the recording. (This may be why “Rock and Roll All Nite” fades out before it ends, but that’s no big loss since I cannot stand that tune.) That’s my only complaint though. Is this the same set list as the, “Animalize Live Uncensored,” video from the following year? Yes (well, with the exception of the inclusion of, “Oh, Susannah”). Is Paul’s voice kind of rough? Yes. Is it noticeable Paul’s guitar cuts out because he’s jumping and dancing around? Yes. But, that’s the beauty of it. This series captures the band the way they weee meant to be seen and heard, in a live context. People are going to hate on this series, but it’s evidence of how KISS earned their reputation. With nearly 50 years of performances, I cannot wait to see what they put out next!
  • Fun, but unnecessary

I’m kinda torn. On one hand, I love that they’re releasing these soundboard recordings . They are fun to listen to, once. But after listening to them one time, I will probably never listen to them again. If I want to listen to live Kiss, I’m going to listen to Alive!, Alive II, or Alive III. Maybe the Millennium Concert or once in awhile Kiss Symphony. These just aren’t something worth listening to often. Great curiosities, but that’s all.
  • To fast

All the songs especially the classics sound very rushed and fast. Not there best work.

There manager admitted they use tracks and Paul Stanley is is horrible person and so is Gene. F these guys. Plus this is just a money grab. Shame on them.

Paul is barely able to catch his breath due to the UP tempos. The guitar tone sounds entirely too treble laden. Not the best choice to release, in my opinion.
  • Nope

Just listening to creatures of the night nope can’t do it. I can not stand how much Paul jumps around and dances while he sings and butchers the song.
