three years ago i flipped when this album came out, the album kind of reminds me of songs from an american movie Vol. 1 and i think they took some influences from Weezer due to the albums hooky pop-rock sound but other than that its Everclear Nuff said

I was a huge Everclear fan through high school in the 90’s, and while Everclear has always been good - I wasn’t the biggest fan of the direction they took in the mid-2000s. They have gone back to their roots in this album and they are back on the top of my list. With pandora, iTunes radio, etc, I don’t really buy CD’s anymore - this was the first CD I have bought in years! I would like to see Greg and Craig back in the lineup, but the new guys certainly seem up to the job judging by this album.

As all of their other albums except Saprkle and fade.Is it me,or is every single song that this dude writes is the same sheet music? Its just sped up or slowed down with new mixed up lyrics about how things will get better,or he wants to get away,or how bad things used to be.JEEZ,if i knew it was that easy,I would have taken up writing a long time ago.Way to go Art!
  • Everclear is Back.

Everclear became a bright thread of strong rock music, lyrics that were as raw and real and from the kind of effed up heart most of us have. That thread weaved and changed colors because the music reflected where Art was at, and it always seemed to be perfectly aligned with what I was going through. Songs From an American Movie vol. 1 & 2 are therapy for those of us who have crossed that hell. Though I loved Slow Motion Daydream, but that's was the start of the thread that frayed with Drama Club, and the music was gone. I figured he was done. It wasn't until I revisited a few old tunes, that I just discovered this album. If Everclear's earlier music was Art's desperation, frustration, and lashing out against the confusion, these songs seem to speak back to those days, and tell you, trial by fire is the only way to heal from the bull****, a culmination of old sound and familiar themes into powerful, new soaring sounds, and driving lyrical perspectives. Everclear is Art's twisted up heart, and it's beating loud again. His thread is back, can't wait to see where we go next.

Wow, hearing these songs make me remember my teens. It's like a trip down memory lane 15 years later!!!! The lyrics may change but the song remains the same, people will appreciate this band in the years that come! Awesome album.....

Seriously, I didnt have much hopes for this CD since everclears peak was 10 years ago, but I will always buy anything Art puts out because I grew up with Aftergow and Sparkle and Fade, and still listen to them today. But I lost my connection with Everclear after the American Movie double album came out, and Slow Motion Daydream was meh, and after the "comeback" album Drama Club came out (absolutely their worst album), I was sure that Art had lost it. But this CD is classic Everclear with those hopeful simple lyrics, youthful energy and amazing guitar harmonies. I actually got chills listening to this CD like I used to get with their first three cds. This proves that Art is a genius, that he can make an album this emotional and beautiful so long after his peak in his youth. I am in love with Everclear again, I feel like part of my childhood was restored to me while listening to this and I smiled like I can only smile at Art's songwriting.
  • A Welcome Return To The Real Drama Club

A welcome return to form, and much better than the previous full album, 'Drama Club. This has everything that makes Everclear great: rock, sadness, pop, bitterness, optimism, catchy melodies, "ahhhhhs", and more rock.
  • More of the same depressing, dark, rock. It's awesome!

There is nothing like a band that stays true to the music that comes from within. This is a timeless rock formula that works. Everclear's true appreciation will come later. Much later.

If you are an Everclear fan (even from way back to before Sparkle and Fade), I think you'll appreciate this album. It a fairly well produced album and there are a few real gems in here, like "Santa Ana Wind". Definitely worth the price.
