Short Stories is a key song to understanding a way we can look at our short lives and all that happens to the central character in our lives, us, or rather I. And yet, the song is clear that the word us is important. Classic Truths in this insightful song. Thanks to the artists and their sharing of insights. Thanks, Robin Christle Contributions to continued works of Art through Self Expression is something I want to encourage the reader and listener to do. You know you want to. These people did and we still come back to these works of Art for good reason. Just doing our part.

Harry Chapin and his music set a benchmark and his songs are missed and more important, he is missed

This album was recorded in the summer of 1973, released later that year. I still owen a copy. So, why does it say that the released date was 2004??

    " alot " should not be used in this context . . . . even though we know what it means . . . . .
  • Not the Right Version of WOLD

What gives? The version of "WOLD" here is NOT the studio LP version from "Short Stories." It's a live version from a different album.
  • In # 9 "a lot" is two words. You do not write "alittle".

Okay, call me a burned out, school teaching, jerk but try buying Harry's song "Mercenaries". It is obscure, but it is the master at his best.
  • Not his best, but still excellent

While I don't think that this was Harry's best album, it is close. It has some great stories. Mr. Tanner is one of my favorite Chapin songs and both it and W*O*L*D have long been a part of my stage act. Mail Order Annie is, IMHO, one of the best songs Harry ever wrote. This album is best enjoyed with good headphones and a good beverage of your choice. Sit back, close your eyes and let Harry take you through these ten scenes of life. You should enjoy it. The only regret that I have is that Chapin isn't around any more to do these great songs live. As great as these songs are, he was always better live. Saw him in 1980, when I was attending college in Scranton, PA.

Harry Chapin is one of the most talented artists I have ever heard. From the lyrics to the calm voice and unique sound, this is a really great album!

I remember when "W*O*L*D" first came out and it hit me like nothing I'd ever heard before. I wanted this album so badly and had to beg for it, since my parents were kind of leery about the "racy cover art." But it totally did justice to the songs inside, which were all dark, dreamy tales of lost lives, lost loves and the yearning for something better, something you can almost touch but never completely have. Harry Chapin was yet another one of those great troubadours taken from us far too soon, but at least we have work like this to enjoy through the ages. If you download no other song from this album, get "W*O*L*D". It plays like the darker flip side of "WKRP In Cincinnati."
