Very, very poor sound quality does not do justice to this gem of a musical

This musical has had a place in my heart for so many years, and I was thrilled to see that it is available in digital format, but I have to agree with some of the other reviewers in that the quality of the sound is terrible. My 25-year-old LP, scratchy and slightly warped as it is, still has clearer sound and less distortion than what I'm getting from these. What a shame!
Performance: Great ... Recording Quality: HORRIBLE

The performance on the recording is just fine. I love the tunes ... they're quite catchy. However, I am quite disappointed with the quality of the actual recording. All of the music gets distorted at the louder volumes.
What Harry said about this Cotton Patch Gospel...

Before his untimely death, Harry Chapin said that writing the music for Cotton Patch was the reason God had put him on this earth. I believe it. I've seen the video version of the stage play a hundred times, and probably will a hundred more before I die.

This is the soundtrack of a stage musical based (mostly) on the gospel of Matthew set in modern-day (well... 1970's) rural Georgia. When seen live, it is a phenomenally moving piece of theatre. Unfortunately, because it was never released on (nor remastered for) CD, the sound quality of these recordings is pretty disappointing, but the material is absolutely stellar! Harry Chapin's music runs the gamut from tender to jubilant, all with a bluegrass feel and lush harmonies throughout. If you ever have the opportunity to see a production of it, don't miss it. And thank you to iTunes for making this wonderful album (very long out of print) available to those of us who have worn out the cassette. (Which is why the artwork looks like it does... it was only available on cassette for decades.)
Great Fun!

Oh my! Cotton Patch Gospel! What a piece of news that´s it is now on iTunes. Unless you have seen the show, it may not have the same response as I have (unless you are a dyed in the wool Chapin fan). I´ve not only seen it on stage but also directed it. What a wonderful theatrical experiences! AND recently found another production on DVD. LOVE IT! FUN! DELIGHTFUL! and just plain "Jubilation," for me.
