  • I love harry

I've always loved harry since I found his greatest stories live album tucked away in my parents cabinet. He's my favorite artist. But the real reason I'm commenting is that in this album, the third song I believe, where it says we were there, the actual name is we were three. It was throwing me off when I was listening to it and reading the songs itunes title, so I googled it.

From that first day, we were THREE* the old lady, & you, & me. It breaks my heart that this man doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Truely the most amazing artist I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Thank you iTunes for having this album on here. I've searched for years for this one missing Harry album to add to my dads collection.

I love this song and feel it is still timely, perhaps more timely. In this era of high-stakes testing it is lovely to have a song about freeing the creative spirit in children instead of imprisoning that spirit in conventions. I used this song for a Keynote (Power Point) presentation for a class that really enlightened me about helping children explore visual arts in a constructive, liberating way.
  • There's SOOO much more to Harry Chapin than Cats In The Cradle

I am SO excited that this Great Live Album is now available. Clearly, Greatest Stories Live (Harry's more well known live album) is justifiably a beloved part of Harry's music collection but this Live CD despite not having Harry's biggest "hits" is a must have for those who loved not only the great song writing featured on Greatest Stories Live but the warmth, humor and pathos that was a signature of Harry's concert performances. Harry may be the only artist I know where so much of his fan base like his LIVE performances EVEN MORE than his studio output. Anyway, if you are not familiar with this album and would like to buy a song or three to see if you'd want to buy the whole album, "Corey's Coming" would be a great choice. It is a very moving song about "an old man" who talks about this mysterious love who will someday come and captures the heart and imagination of a young man who befriends only to find out a suprising ending. Another standout track is "Stranger With The Melodies." If you are a fan of Harry's story song style, this is another classic that has the feel of a short movie or perhaps a two person play. "If My Mary Were Here" is one of the better songs I've ever heard about a person who realizes that they let a good woman get away. "Flowers Are Red" in 5 minutes makes a profound point about stripping away a child's imagination in our school system and teaching conformity much like Cats In The Cradle made a profound point about not allowing "life" to get in the way of spending quality time with your children. "Old Folkie" is a well deserved tribute to Folk Singer Legend Pete Seeger. "Mail Order Annie" is another moving song about an unusual subject; mail order brides. "You Are The Only Song" is reminiscent of the long intro to Jackson Browne's version of "Stay." "Get On With It," and "Odd Job Man" show Harry's more tongue-in-cheek, playfully risque side. If you even somewhat like Harry Chapin and you've never heard this album before you truly have found a HIDDEN GEM!!!

What a wonderful surprise to find this album - thank you iTunes! I've missed it for so long and have been reconnecting with a part of my inner self while listening to it. Harry was the ultimate live performer. His ability to connect with his audience through his stories, his banter and his sheer personality made a difference. While his studio work was good, the only way to listen to his music is in the live venue. It's far more genuine and you can appreciate the nuances of his storytelling. On this album, the poignancy of his greatest story songs shines through. "Stranger with the Melodies," "Tangled Up Puppet," "Mail Order Annie" and "Corey's Coming" simply glow, but every song conveys the emotion that Harry put into his writing and live interpretations. The best Chapin playlist comes from purchasing "Greatest Stories Live" (his first live album, incomplete on iTunes) and this issue, then combining them into a single playlist. Some of his strongest works (such as "Sniper," which he rarely did in concert because it took so much out of him) won't be there, but it's a great way to flash back to a better time. I saw him in concert three times, the last six seats off front row center the November before we lost him. All three remain in my mind and heart.

Thanks to iTunes!! This is one of Chapin's best works. It was one of my favorite albums growing up, around the same time of his accident. Until now, I've been unable to find this particular album. His stories are great! If you like Taxi and Cats in the Cradle, you should definitely pick this one up!!

Harry Chapin stands out in rock history as a creative, enlightened, and captivating artist. This album captures some of his finest songs, and some of the stories that can't be found on any other album. His live music had a special sparkle to it. We saw this with "Greatest Stories Live," and it shines even more with "Legends of the Lost and Found." Even though I have already digitally recorded most of the songs on this album from the vinyl, I'm buying it on iTunes to show my support of the artist, the album, and his family.

My Dad has had this on vinyl for almost thirty years - thanks to the Chapin family for getting this released finally. Of course, Dad isn't exactlly iPod/ computer savvy, so I've got to go somewhere else to burn a CD that he can actually play in an old-fashioned CD player. Live Harry Chapin is so much better than studio Harry Chapin. Great to finally get Stranger With the Melodies, the live version of Flowers are Red, etc. Remember to support WHY (World Hunger Year).
