This is a hard pass. Their time has come and gone.

With Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Lane Staley sadly no longer with us! We still at least have Eddie Vedder still in musical form! This album won’t Top the 90’s Alternative Rock movement and it’s doubtful they’d want to do that, but Dark Matter is on of the best albums of 2024 so far in my view anyway!
  • Welcome back PJ.

Wasn’t sure about the title track at first. But after a few spins, I fell in love with it. Same reaction with Wreckage. Even Running, one of the relatively weaker tracks on the album- and a strange choice for a single- has grown on me. Now that the whole album is here, it’s clear that Pearl Jam are still firing on all cylinders. Their first two albums (Ten and Vs) were truly lightning in a bottle, instant classics. Every subsequent album has had some experimental dabbles and some misfires. But they’re still the kings of rewarding multiple listens, and Dark Matter certainly fits that bill. It snuck up on me and won me over, and it’s going to get a lot of play over the coming months.
  • What is going on? Overproduced/Homogenized Digital mess

This digital stuff has got to go! Every band is starting to sound the same. Pearl Jam's new album sounds like Blink programmed and Dream Theater programmed and even the band Aborted programmed. Just play your garage/punk/grunge rock without pro-tools or whatever the heck is going on.

We have been always waiting for that moment in the 21st Century when Pearl Jam can somehow touch the greatness of their first 5 records. Yes there are always 2-4 gems on each Pearl Jam record that always has us coming back for more, but this album is a comprehensive call back to pieces of those first 5 records that made them what they were. This album is a breath of fresh air in a time where great records are a thing of the past, not one song on this album is worthy of a skip and one without the other would not make this Dark Matter puzzle what it is. This will be nominated for Rock Record of the year.

Been a fan since the early 90’s. Have grown up with PJ. Saw them live in 1992 (Lolapalooza). Haven’t been able to see them live since then. But will be able to see them live finally this year (2024). I’m going into the concert hoping to be able to hear a lot of really old tunes, but this album is changing my mind. It’s so good.
  • Nostalgia Review

I certainly understand that no one will ever match music produced during their heyday. But give them a chance, people. PJ is a great band for as long as we can remember. Grunge created amazing music and memories for all of us. But grunge is long gone. If we don’t support guys like Vedder and friends then we are giving up to current “empty” music trends. You will never have anyone record Jeremy, Black, Nothingman, Better Man, Evenflow, Alive, Daughter, Dissident type hits anymore. Move over to Travis Barker or Machine Gun Kelly instead then. Good luck trying to match Jeremy-esque hits there. These guys bust their backs putting together a record to support a tour and give you new material and all you do is crush them. By the way, Grunge was 35-40 years ago. Enjoy the nostalgia because once you drive these guys out your stuck with…who knows? AI Music.
  • They were good….once, a long time ago.

This band has not aged well. This is more proof of that. Boring, uninspiring, bland….I could go on but I won’t.
