The rawness and folksiness of it work very well, in my opinion.

The beauty of every Pearl Jam album is that each stands out as it's own. I love each album, and for very different reasons, but forced to select a "favorite" and this would be the one for me.
  • Good stuff in here

I can't say it's as good as some older albums, but it has some good songs. Am I the only one who thinks "Arc" is awesome? I listen to it 3-5 times in a row.

Most underrated album.....I Am Mine, Ghost, Cropduster, Save You, Get Right, You Are, and my personal gave 1/2 full... A better album than Binaural, and Avacado in my opinion.

This album has its own place in the Pearl Jam collection. It was recorded and released about two years after the dreadful events at Roskilde 2000 which proved to be a turning point for the band. In fact, this was their recovery album. Much of the material on this album covers the hardships of dealing with life and death and the value of life itself. "Can't Keep" and "I Am Mine" are definitely great examples, showing the importance of doing not only what you need to do but what you want to do and that you should take control of your life because you only have one and the clock is ticking. "Love Boat Captain" draws a picture of love and loss in a single setting and is another one of PJ's emotional songs that hit a heart string when you get into them. "Cropduster" is a very blunt song about the cycle of life and death, but hides it with a rather upbeat melody. "Get Right" seems to be about getting right with the 9 people who died during the Roskilde incident (like I said most of the album touches around this subject). "Green Disease" is mainly about the goverment and how those with more money lose touch from those with no money. Finally, "All or None" talks about internal struggles and the feeling of emptiness and the feeling of living an empty life. The message may not be clear in all of these, but if you take the time to listen and interpret for yourself you'll realize that Riot Act may just be one of the best albums PJ has released.
  • Not their best.

I loved this one when it was released, but it hasn't stood the test of time. It is more "folky" influenced and just lacks energy. Of course, it is Pearl Jam so their are some great songs on here. Check out "You Are", "Can't Keep", Save You", or "All or None". There are just too many duds on this one that if they play live, it would be time to grab a drink and take a leak. Songs like "Help, Help" and Get Right" are probably the most forgettable from the PJ catalog.
