  • Come To A Monkees Christmas Party!

This album has become one of my favorite Christmas gifts to myself!! I can't express how much I've enjoyed listening to this CD and hearing the Monkees again! I was 7 years old when their first album came out and my mom bought it for me. I've been a lifelong Monkees fan ever since! And when I saw this album at the store I couldn't believe it! But I have to admit that I was a little skeptical at first that the Monkees might not sound so good at this age, but boy was I wrong!! Mikey's voice in 1966 is etched into my consciousness and he sounds just as good to me today! Davey's voice as well! And Mike brought such a warm cozy atmosphere on the song Snowfall. Wow! This album feels like a 60's record to me and it makes me feel like a kid again! It's wonderful! Thanks to all 4 of the Monkees for letting us celebrate Christmas with them and for reminding us just how wonderful it used to feel!!

I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable this album is, and it is a pleasant follow-up to 2016's "Good Times." It's finest moment is "House of Broken Gingerbread," which transcends Christmas tunes; it's simply a fantastic song. Micky is the dominant lead vocalist, and his voice is strong on songs like "Unwrap You at Christmas," "What Would Santa Do," "Jesus Christ" and the bluesy "Merry Christmas, Baby." My son is particular to Peter's banjo playing on "Angels We Have Heard on High." He's a big fan of Peter and I like it, but admittedly it's an acquired taste. It's great to have Mike Nesmith continue to participate, and his contributions of two Christmas classics are both well done. It's also great to hear Davy again, and his voice is perfect for "Silver Bells" and "Mele Kalikimaka." It's a shame iTunes does not include the song's from the Target exclusive (at least not as of this writing): the classic "Riu Chiu" and "Christmas Is My Time of Year," a Micky-Davy pairing that might be the most smile-inducing song they recorded for this album, and the perfect ending to the album. Get it, and let the good times continue!

It's a solid Christmas album overall. The Jesus Christ song is terrible. It's annoying and gets skipped at every listen. The Gingerbread song is dark and really doesn't fit with the rest of the album and probably doesn't belong on a Christmas themed album. Other than that, it's great. Nez's songs are really well done. I wasn't familiar with Snowfall, but its a great song. Thanks to The Monkees for a Christmas record.

This is a fun album and I like the mix of secular and non secular and the boys are in great voice, Davy Jones is here also and I'm glad they included him because it just wouldn't feel right for him to not be so it's all four fellas and tht makes this a bona fide Monkees album. My only criticism is they should've included "Riu Chiu" to make this one and only Christmas album totally complete.

Was tentative when I read about the idea, but this ended up being surprisingly excellent. MIcky is in fine form and the track listing is a nice mix of familiar and new.
