There are those who say that they miss the old Rippingtons/Russ Freeman, and although they are entitled to their opinion (and yes, the earlier works are fantastic), if an artist isn't allowed to grow and evolve, he'll lose interest in his art and become blasé. And so this group remains fresh and exciting, and Freeman gives us and intoxicatingly exotic sound that I can't get enough of!

I honestly enjoyed listening to this album. This is probably one of their best releases (IMO), a more serious and mature vibe.

Like others have said here, this is more of a Russ Freeman groove than a Rippingtons collaboration. My favorite track is North Shore. Here I feel the CD actually starts to move a bit. The other tracks are lazy Sunday afternoon, to tired to pick up the remote to change the channel grooves. I give a three.

You people are all missing the point. The Rippingtons is and will always be Russ Freeman or an extension thereof. Why all the analysis. This album is a natural progression from the last one Built to Last. Russ has been the driving force ever since the beginning so who cares if he releases it as a solo project or as The Rippingtons. The guy is a genious. An innovator. Someone who has always pushed the boundaries of Straight Ahead Guitar Jazz. If you want Sax or Piano New Age Jazz, go buy a Michael Lington or David Sanborn CD. If you want piano, go buy Joe Sample or Bob James. Quit complaining about the release and enjoy it for what it is. A masterful piece of New Age Jazz. An expression of Russ Freeman the ever evolving Jazz Master.....

Looks like Jeff Kashiwa is out again. I have pre-ordered and listened to "North Shore" and all the samples and I don't hear any sax. I know this is Russ' group and guitar is a big foundation of the sound but think about your favorite Ripps songs...that sax is HUGE. To completely do away with it is a big departure. Ok I have had some time to revisit this. I really, really love this vibe this album has. Great sound, great guitar work. But this is a Russ Freeman project, not really a typical Rippintons project. Still very worth getting...but I still want that sax. Pulling up from 3 stars to 4.

If you are a big fan of the horns then you won't agree with me. But if you are a fan well composed smooth jazz that's not muzak, then you will like this.

Hold on Russ, this one is going to hurt. I have been a die hard Ripps fan from the very beginning, own every album, even a fan of Russ and his solo efforts, but I have to say in my opinion, this is the worst Rippingtons effort to date and could be the last album I buy from this group. No acoustic rhythm or sax romps that made the Rippingtons so good, I feel the group has not been the same since Steve and his percussion left, but that is an argument for later. Maybe Russ should worry less about getting his name featured on the cover and more about producing a quality album like the old days...ouch

I know, people will say, this band it's missing this and this, but the mystical and new vibe is here, maybe people doesn't understand the changes, but sometimes you got to go with or without..
