  • I'm on the fence

I miss the days when every song on a Ripp CD was good. Now, it's hit-and-miss. This has some good tracks, and some that made me think, "huh"?
  • OK, a bit to electronic but OK

Ive been a fan of the Rippingtons since early 1990 when I saw them in concert in a small venue in Monterey CA. Why do people STILL insist that a musician must keep the same style it had 20 years ago, musician as music changes with time, its part of the normal evolution of the artist and music in general. The Lp is Ok.

I like this album. I liked the older stuff, but I think abandoning the horns opened up so many possibilities. Among my favorites are Midnight Run and Silver Arrows. Tangerine Skyline is an obvious homage to the band Tangerine Dream, which is another of my favorites. I, for one, am happy that they are not stuck in the rut of the past.
  • Where are the Rippingtons?

Sometimes breaking up the band is NOT good. Does Russ Freeman listen to his gan base? Does he really care? Russ I know this is hard, but bring everyone back from the Old Crew (circa the Curves Ahead album, or the Sahara album), and you will see your fan base all come back. I promise you. Right now we need the Old Ripps Crew. It’s tough out here and we need some musical joy. Plus make sure you get drummer Tony Morales out of of retirement. He was your beat keeper. Russ they are waiting. Thanks.
  • Bland, like most smooth jazz nowadays

The Ripps have simply succumbed to modern snooze fest bland nothing special jazz that so many other artists have also done. This album, much like their most recent efforts, isn’t anything special
  • Miss the old Rippingtons

The current music just does not have any dynamic feel compared to the Rippingtons original music. They had a more vibrant, energy to their past music. None of the songs on this one stand out for me.
  • Not much for me

I have most of the Rippingtons music and I've seen them in concert 4-5 times and always enjoyed their music and shows. I used to just automatically buy their new albums when released without sampling them. However, the last several albums are heavily synthed and I shy away from that kind of music. I play acoustic guitar and acoustic guitar music is the kind of music I buy. So I've gotten where I preview the album and buy the tunes that Russ is playing acoustic guitar on. 40-50-% of the tracks. This album leaves me with not much to buy so I will probably just pass.
  • Another Synthesizer CD

Like many others who have written reviews, I've been there since the very beginning when Moonlighting was first released. I bought every album until the last couple of releases. I understand the need to evolve and create, but Russ' music has continued to get more and more heavy into the synthesizers and less and less organic music i.e. guitar and percussion. I know synthesisers & keyboards were all the rage back in the '80's, but it's time to leave those in the past as it totally dates the music and make it feel regurgitated rather than fresh. I would love to hear more flamenco, more driving electric & acoustic guitars, more real drums (not the fake electronic ones), and more real percussion.
  • A new and fine effort

The Rippingtons are a bit of victims of their own success. That first release was fresh, passionate and tightly produced. How do you follow a debut that’s an instant classic in an emerging genre? I have to admit, I have not felt as fully satisfied by any release since, but each one had some cuts well worth the wait For me, this one is better than average. I love the way the first 3-4 cuts run together. I love the synth experiments with sirens and gears—and oh that one church bell is to die for! This release has plenty of the compelling melodies m, textures and positive, driving rhythms I have become so fond of Thanks for decades of music I have jogged, biked, worked out and lived to. Keep going down the open road!

Midnight Ride is the BEST track! The rest of the album is just okay. Steve Reid needs to come back to the group to add his signature sounds.
