  • My Childhood

This soundtrack to Sing Blue Silver IS my childhood. I can't imagine how many hours I spent watching this but I can say without question my parents were sick of it. I can still remember certain movements that members of the band make at specific spots in songs. LOVE that I found this!

This is actually the soundtrack to "Sing Blue Silver"...DD's 1984 tour documentary...that I initially recorded via VHS during its premier on MTV back in the mid-80's (cassette commercials and all). I since found an import DVD of SBS in the mid-90's that came with a companion booklet and member photos all in a nice light blue velvet commemorative box. This doc shows just how big this band was from '83-'85...hence, The Fab Five. Sure brings back memories of a good time in music of all genres. As for DD themselves, very under-rated band. This music (and the Blue Silver doc) captures just how capable each member was on their instrument...not just banging out half-assed strumming; they actually had chops. Listen to John's bass lines and Roger's dynamics & fills (that's a single pedal on "Seventh Stranger")...while Nick provides all of the underlying textures that makes these songs so great. And Andy played tastefully for the song...not taking a spotlight. And Simon WAS Duran. Didn't hurt that they also all had the looks to get tail...which is also what hurt their credibility to critics and non-fans. I wasn't fooled, though. This was a great band captured in their prime. This band was something very special and frankly...these songs still hold up today.

Very close to ARENA yet it isn't. Ok maybe. The extended intro to the opening track is a major plus. ARENA offers better versions of Rio and Girls on Film if you get the remastered version. Unless you are a DD heavy you are better off with ARENA.
