Reviews

  • Not my type of Duran Duran remixes

This steps so far away from the style of remixes I grew up on it was a hard pill to swallow. And this one of my favorite tracks from Astronaut! I'll take the album version any day over all of these remixes combined.

Another great example of the genius of Duran Duran's many shades of their sound spectrum. Best band ever! So many great albums and remixes. My only wish is that there were more!
  • Love this song and this band, but...

Duran Duran has the WORST ideas about which singles to release. This song, along with Taste the Summer from the same album, could have been a HUGE hit for them, but they release the mediocre What Happens Tomorrow? Come on! They totally missed the boat and they do this with EVERY album they release; there are a clutch of very radio-friendly singles that could put them back on the charts and they never release them. With Nice, it's a case of better late than never, but I have to say only one of the remixes come close to doing it any justice and even that one is no match for the original. I too miss the days when remixes and 12 inch versions were extended versions of the original track, or at least retained some aspects of the original. Most of these remixes, as with so many these days, have almost nothing to do with the song musically or thematically. It's gotten really boring. I hope Duran Duran decides to bring back classic remixing and has more of a say in who does their remixes for them. They could really start a revolution in the arena. I'm tired of a DJ's trying to make a name for themselves by hijacking other people's songs and rendering them unrecognizable. When a favorite song comes on at a club, I want to dance and sing along. Most of these remixes could have been made for any song in the last ten years. That said, a couple of the remixes at least attempt a fresh take on the actual song. The Eric Prydz mixes are fun and while the hip hop/R&B genre is not my favorite, the Dready mix is a decent alternative to the dancier versions. Nothing like the old Night Versions here, but interesting enough that I downloaded them.
  • Great song, not so great mixes.

Wow! One of my faves from ASTRONAUT. Lable was foolish not to release it as the third single. Unfortunately, the song deserved better club treatment. The mixes are fairly weak. Eric Prydz's mixes sound cool until you realize there will be no lyrics, only a repetitive sample. His three mixes are too close and I was peeved after paying three times for what is virtually the same treatment and length. If one of Prydz's were an extended mix with the vocals it would've been the best on the album. Instead, it's the weakest. Tracks 4-7 provide some mix variety but still don't go the distance in re-inventing the original. And whatever happened to respecting the band and doing a throw back extended mix highlighting their talents with a true remix, not a reinvention? I agree with one review that said the DREADY mix was probably thrown together. Nothing so hot about it. Sounds like they just laid down a few quick riffs and layed the vocal right on it. The best for me are the Johnson Somerset and Pablo mixes. Hey, if I'm in the club or in the car, I want the vocals. What can I say?
  • Don't try picking, just buy them all.

You know, you could hate DD and still love these tracks. While the original tune is fantastic in it's own right, these mixes take it to the next level without destroying the core of the song. Pop this in your iPod and head to the gym.

Nice is one of my favorite songs off Astronaut, these mixes are nicer than nice. A mix is here for everyone. My favorites are Pablo's & Eric Prydz Radio Too Mix. All the mixes are good driving songs, perfect to energize you on the elliptical machine at the gym, or dance off those Cosmos at the club. I would love to hear remixes of "Mars meets Venus" on Duran Duran's 'Pop Trash' CD. "Burning the Ground," "Too Much Information" and "White Lines" have HOT SEXY mixes
