Reviews

  • Much better than portrayed

The idiotic main reviewer fails to mention songs like The Seventh Stranger and the (yes commercial) New Moon On Monday as sings that have aged tremendously well, specially when looked at against songs from their peers in 1983. Yes, Reflex is a little too waywaywyayayaya but don’t mistake the boys having fun with being empty of creativity. It’s a great album.
  • A must buy!

Simon has such a great voice. Amazing songs throughout.

While an album with (today) nostalgic hits like “The Reflex”, “New Moon on Monday” and “Union of the Snake”, and a nice instrumental track in “Tiger Tiger”, this album clearly marks the beginning of the end for the band. Dropping producer Colin Thurston (who masterfully produced their guitar/bass infused new wave eponymous debut album “Duran Duran” as well as the smooth funky, bass guitar driven melodies of their mega hit second album “Rio”) the band chose to work with producer Alex Sadkin. The sound of this album overall was a more commercial sound which minimized John Taylors funky bass lines and Andy Taylors guitar, as heard in the first two albums for a more plasticky synth heavy sound. While successful, you can clearly hear the bands decline from their zenith just a year earlier. Indeed, by 1985, the band would release their last hit together, “A View to a Kill” from the 007 Bond film of the same name, after which, they would break up.

First the good. If you had the LP or even the first run of CD;s back in the day this was a very good sounding and well produced album ... even if your not a fan. Why do some downloads sound like utter garbage...and sometimes better than the CD?.. I purchased this download before the deluxe version appeared in iTunes and feel totally cheated out of my $8.00 or whatever...not the end of the world. The 2 versions are noticeably different sounding. An older LP Vinyl might even sound better than either download if it's in good shape if you are into records.

The best album from an iconic band of the 80's (their recent stuff isn't the same). Crime & Passion might be my favorite song from Duran Duran.
  • Did not like it then / care less for it now

I love Duran Duran but I hate this album. I was so disappointed after hearing the first albums. I do see lots of learning here from the band while working with Alex Sadkin (producer).

I grew up listening to this album. It was ahead of its time as far as pop music was concerned. Wait until it comes back around.
