Atlantic Crossing (Deluxe Edition)

I love this lp i used to play this record until i wore it out great songs , my favourites are -Stone Cold Sober-Three time loser- still love you-Sailing-I don't want to talk about it. -get it now!

I love all of Rod Stewart's work. He is one of the few artist that can cover another artist and make it sound even better than the original. I'm a little confused though I thought his entire catalogue of studio albums had been rereleased and were all available here on iTunes I have downloaded all of them that are listed here today. I'm still missing the first four albums and Blondes Have More Fun. Weren't they on here last week? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks....

when this came out i was...12. and i understand the critical ragging. sure it would have been nice to have ronnie involved, but perhaps he was occupied. nevertheless, both atlantic crossing and a night on the town are classic, archetypal mid-seventies albums, and frankly as good or better than anything the stones put out at the time. the ballads 'i don't want to talk about it', 'it's not the spotlight' 'this old heart of mine' and 'sailing' are the standouts, along with 'drift away.' granted, the rockers are tepid, and that reduces me to 4 stars. but the new tracks more than make up for the dip in rock quality control, particularly the booker t tracks. frankly, i never knew these existed. and the skye boat song is great for context, and it's a pity they left it off the original. warner brothers exec 1975: rod...baby...bagpipes? it'll freak people out...and the vibes are so... you know, soldiers and war. hate to break it to ya, rod, but we here in the states had this thing called...uh...vietnam. yeah, rod, it's too much of a bummer.

Sure, this is not as good as his first four albums, but beats anything he has done in over 30 years. There are several good songs here that are worth the price (songs #1, 2, 5, 6, and 9, and #10 was the big hit). Throughout the 70's, Stewart never hit rock bottom, so there are still glimpses of humility and authenticity here. The end did not really happen until the 80's. A glimmer of hope emerged with Spanner in the Works and Vagabond Heart, but I think it's all over.

''Atlantic Crossing'' is not in the same class as his great ''Every Picture...'' or ''Never a Dull Moment'' discs. Considering he's not with his old band, Faces, on this release it still pretty good with a decent mix of rockers and ballads. Rod's cover of ''I Don't Want to Talk About It'' is outstanding,so if you're pressed for cash,at least get that one...
