I had heard of Warren a while back, I think in 07 or 08. My dad has his Anthology: I'll sleep when I'm dead album on cd. What saddens me is that that album is not on iTunes. I would love to see it here. I love a great deal of Zevon's songs.
  • The BEST

Hands down his best album - every song is a keeper. The stories are complex, the music a perfect accompanyment, and the stellar supporting cast of back up singers and musicians really deliver - my guess is that Warren had that kind of effect on them as well. DO NOT MISS THIS AGELESS CLASSIC.

After I got ahold of Warren Zevon's posthumous Preludes discs & was totally blown away by it, I figured this collector's version of his 1976 Lp would be worth getting just for the demos. Warren's brilliance never ceases to amaze me. Listening to the music of this caliber is quite refreshing! Zevon & his California cowboys never fail to deliver the goods, it's craftsmanship quite excellent, indeed. I am appalled that the only songs I ever hear on the radio by this late, great gentleman is either Werewolves or Lawyers. I am also saddened that the music academy waited until Warren's passing before they gave him any grammys. But I guess they only realize greatness after it passes.

Desperados Under the Eaves is one of the most brutally sad songs ever written.

Be sure to check out the alternative version of "Mama Couln't Be Pursuaded", just a fantastic version.
  • Absolute classic on par with the best of Springsteen and any other major singer/songwriter

This is probably the greatest album you've never heard. One listen to classics like "Frank and Jesse James", "Hasten Down the Wind", "French Inhaler", "Mohammed's Radio" and "Desperados..." and you'll be hooked - and just as confused as I am to why this album doesn't have the sales to match it's critical regard. There's a reason Zevon was a songwriter's songwriter - he was better at it than most, combining dark, tragic and bizarrely humorous lyrics with superior musicianship. Everyone in LA in the 70's music scene respected him and did their best to help him out, to brief avail. Do yourself a favor and download this now. The rest of the catalogue will follow soon after I'm sure.

This is an amazing amazing album to begin with but now with all the bonus material, it blows my mind. It's so great to hear more Zevon - I never thought we'd get to hear more from him and I'm so grateful to have this material. The remastering sounds great to me but I'm so much more into the extra songs that I never thought I'd get to hear - brilliant!
  • The Greatest Album Of All Time

This is far and away my favorite album. The song writing is exquisite, the instrumentals divine, and the vocals, well the vocals are pure Warren, and that's something the world could have used a lot more of. From someone that has all of Warren's albums, including the original release of this self titled album, this is the one I go to when everything else starts sounding the same. This is always unique and somehow perfect. The original was recorded a little low overall, something this remaster rectifies. In addition, much of the additional material is very enjoyable and gives the listener some insight into the man's craft. I can not recommend this album highly enough.
  • Sounds alright to me

I'm listening to this on a pair of Bose ear buds and it sounds fine to me. This is a classic record with great bonus material. If you are a Zevon fan, you need this record. If you are new to Zevon's music, this is the place to start. Not only do you get what is generally considered Zevon's finest record, you get great alternate and acoustic versions of many of his classic songs. By the way, Rolling Stone gave this release four stars and didn't have a problem with the sound either. Buy this record.
  • Hot mastered - stay away!

Most of this album is hot mastered; the sound is clipped and TOO LOUD. Don't waste your money.
