Let it be said that John Rzeznik has got it together, always has, always will. Every song the Goo Goo Dolls make is awesome. I find it so creative that a lot of their songs have hidden messages - if you look beyond the music, you'll see each song was finely crafted by Rzeznik. Great band all around. They are definitely one of a kind, there's no one like 'em. Plus they've got the chops to play live. Whoo Goo Goo! This album showcases the Goo's less played hidden gems - it shows even the newest fans that the Goo Goo Dolls have been around and are here to stay. :)

Unlike the previous Greatest Hits album, this record focuses on the "under the radar" songs The Goo Goo Dolls have released over the last decade. The majority of the lyrics are simpler and the guitars are less refrained, making this a fun rock and roll album. A lot of great songs on here, especially "What a Scene," "Only One," "Wait for the Blackout," "I'm Awake Now," and the live cover of Tom Petty's "American Girl" is the perfect way to end the album. There is another version of "Iris" on here...it's the original demo John Rzeznik and the rest of the Goos recorded before they made the smash hit single. If you're used to their songs like "Stay With You," "Let Love In," and "Give a Little Bit," you may not like this record since it has more spit than polish. That said, this is a great album. Wouldn't recommend to anyone younger than the high school level simply because some of the messages and language on this album would raise eyebrows.
  • 2 songs make the album worth it.

The two songs that make this album are Iris (Demo) and We'll Be Here (New Mix). The former shows you how Rzeznik created Iris in a very raw demo. The latter is just a great song with a sound you wouldn't expect from a punk-turned-alt. rock band. It's experimental, loaded with effects. The last couple of minutes is pure brilliance - new age, even.

You guys need to realize that the Goo Goo Dolls actually used to ROCK. I liked them when they were straight punk, an era which many of the tracks on this collection are from. Screw "Iris" and all the other bullcrap mainstream singles they have released since then. This is the essence of the Goo Goo Dolls

First of all to the reviewer who mentioned that they "Screwed" up Iris, please note that the version included in this collection is actually the Demo version. Think of it as rough draft, upon which the final song was built around. I think they just included it in here as kind of a fun peek at how much a song will evolve from the first writing. Anyway, most of the songs on here are songs that would be considered "B" sides and are unlikely to be well known to the average listener. I think it is actually a really cool idea to collect some of their lesser known songs, but likely fan favorites, into one cd. What is nice about this collection is that you actually can hear the diversity of their sound. Some of the songs that were a revelation to me included "All Eyes On Me", "Long Way Down'. "Hate this Place", "Lazy Eye". I also really like their cover of Fleetwood Mac's "I Don't Want to Know". Bassist Robby Takac does a fun cover of The Lime Spider's "Slave Girl" Also included is a new version of "We'll Be Here When You're Gone" which was a sadly ignored song off of their last CD, Let Love In. This new version is even better than the first version and shows that the GGD's are still wanting to experiment with their sound, even after all this time. Give it a chance. In fact, I think people will be surprised with the range, from harder punk-edged rock to thoughtful Contemporary.

This album, no surprise, is as good as it gets!!! They are professional rockin' musicians. Nothing short of amazing. And, what other band does anyone know of that has packaged their hits like the Goo Goo Dolls? What other band has done this for their fans? Greatest Hits Volume 1 has all the top hits. Here, Volume 2 has all the B sides and "unreleased" material....AWESOME. And, for us lucky fans who bought the CD, it came with a DVD with all, yes, ALL, their videos! If you are a fan, you have to go buy the CD/DVD. You can not be disappointed ;o)

this is a good album to get if you're a fan of the goo goo dolls. Its not quite as good as their first greatest hits cd but its close. unfortunately there are a few songs on here from the days when the goo goo dolls thought they were a punk band, but other than that its more of the same original goo goo dolls sound.
