  • Excellent Album, great writing

At first listen I wasn't blown away, but after a few listens I have found this to be a really beautiful album. In comparison, the album doesn't have some of the complexity and depth that is so powerful in The Letting Go, but I think the words are excellent and sounds really mature and whole as a collection of songs. Seems hes grown personally, or found some peace and truth and the music is really coming out of 'a good old time feel' (~or some similar line that he says in the later tracks). He is an excellent artist, and this is definitely worth listening to. I wait for the newer album too...
  • Still corrupted tracks

As noted before, there are "skipping" sounds corrupting tracks 4 (shortly after 1:50) and 8 (shortly after 0:50), and slightly less egregious, but still there just after 0:24 on Track 1. What the heck? If I've had a CD bouncing around in my car for a year this might be expected, but the actual downloaded tracks are corrupted? Pitiful (meaning non-existent) quality control. Fix it dang it!!!!!
  • Does he have a woodshed ... ?

...because it'd be great for running through the songs he intends to record. Some really nice songs and sounds here, but the neglect in accurately rendering the vocals (melodies as well harmonies) strikes me as as disrespectful, or at the very least a faked under-sophistication. Still, nice atmosphere. I'll listen more and maybe come to a forgiving place.
  • half a great album half lazy pastiche of himself.

You can tell when Will Oldham is bored...and half the tracks on this are done in his meandering lazy 'let's see what comes up if I strum the guitar this way' style. It's maddening because when he has something real to say his music is touching and really beautiful. (I see a darkness, Master and Everyone, even the upbeat Ease Down the Road). There are some great tracks but not a complete album.

This is a gorgeous album that only gets better with every listen like all of his albums. Makes life a little nicer. Thanks Mr. Billy! If you like the more rocking Bonnie Prince Billy sound check out the band The Anomoanon.
  • Bonnie's Best

this is easily Will Oldham's best album since 2001 "Ease Down the Road." Solid songwriting throughout, strong, rich production, and still that familiar twinge of the eerie (which it wouldn't be Bonnie "Prince" Billy without). "Easy Does It," "So Everyone," and the title track are stand-outs to me. This albums gifts are rich and plentiful. A great introduction for the uninitiated, and a welcome addition to the family for those who are.
  • A wonderful album

This was a very good album in my opinion. It has a very sweet sound to it and it refrains from being crappy and twangy country. Lie Down in The Light is definately worth buying.
  • Yet another one...

Bonnie Prince Billy grants us yet another lovely record - the beginning is much more twangy as mentioned but the country sound fades as the album progresses. Missing one and What's Missing Is are two wonderful songs. The download appears to play fine on my computer (as of June 13th. A pleasure of a record.

Tracks 4 (starting at 1:50) and 8 (starting at 0:57) are corrupted. Check your copies carefully! C'mon, Apple, get on the ball!
