As with most all of Will Oldham's releases either as himself, with "The Brother's Palace", or as the Bonny Mr. Billy, the two new "B-sides" on this release are good enough that this should really be a triple A-side release. In the simple "Senor" Mr. Oldham is singing to pleasantly plucked acoustic guitar acoustic sounds like a less epic version of "Grand Dark Feeling of Emptiness" from his 2001 LP "Ease Down the Road." "Going to Acapulco" sounds like it might have been recorded in the same West Coast session that the limited edition "Barcelona" single on was taken from. While more sedate than "Barcelona" it employs a horn section and the marching drum style is somewhat similar. So in short, not only do you get the excellent "Lay and Love" track from his new album "The Letting Go" you get two tracks that themselves are worthy of being singles or great album tracks on their own. For an artist who relishes change, Bonny Prince Billy is consistent in releasing singles that never have b-sides that are throwaway tracks just tacked on to make an extra buck. The two b-sides on this single further expand an already tremendous body of work throughout his career and more specifically related to his latest album.
