This is not the same as Easy, Word of Mouth, It Means Escape, Are You With Me?, or even Mercyland. This is a change of pace and can be downright fun. I can't give it 5 stars because I don't really care for how it was mixed. It seems that one or two songs have the vocals too low and they sound behind the music. Track 1 TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS. Beatles Cover/ which is why it is not available. I happen to love it. When I first heard it, I thought of u2 -=- sounds similar to something (Stylewise) that you would hear either from POP or ZOOROPA. Kind of gets you moving... Track 2 Disconnected is a jammer and a foot tapper. Seen performed live on Craig Kilborn's The Late Show. Track 3 Tell The Girl -the way the guitar started first 5 notes or so reminded me of a 1984(?) release by David Gilmour and at the same time made me think of New Age Girl by Dead Eye Dick produced by Fred Leblanc. Track 4 I Don't Wanna Be Friends: Straightforward rocker. Tells story of a failed relationship. Track 5 Uh-Oh -A little silly but we need songs like that. I mean, back in the 80s we had Tarzan Boy with the "Oh oh oh oh whooah oh o oh oh." Track 6 So Much The Better -remake of the Fred solo release. Like the guitar work. Vocals sound too far back of the music. But great. "She's leaving the man that she left me for..." Track 7 Can't Stay Here - a JTG sighting... finally... a nice song. Wish we would have had more of JTG on this cd. Track 8 - Better. Same as the e.p. and Fred's solo effort. Not much to say except that even though it is the same, it is still a great song. Although, I would have loved to hear them do "Forever Tonight (Here's to You) Track 9. Invincible. Better on the old "H.P." un-release. But, here it is pretty good. Although, I miss Fred doing that first "we were invincible" and the "yeah" growl/bark he did on that original version. Track 10. Be That Way. One of my favorite Fred solo songs. Updated and different. I'll agree with the other Brien I also like the original version from Dammit. Track 11. Trouble. This is just fun on a disk. Reminded me of Money Love Time from Dash. Track 12. Senseless. I really like this song an introspective song. Track 13. Bad Girl. "Who cares if Michael Stipe is straight or gay!" Overall, there really are no 'skippers' on this disk. This is a start to finish disk. Happy listening.
  • Good but Inconsistent: A Song by Song Review

My other half and I have a slight disagreement about this album. I feel the album is inconsistent, that it has a few brilliant moments, many OK (but fun) moments, and that as a whole you can feel the disconnect that happens when members work individually on songs rather than as a group. As a hardcore fan, I found the album somewhat disappointing because it seems that there is so much missed opportunity involved with the making of _Uh-Oh_. As a new fan, my husband thinks the album is great and often chooses it over their others in the car. Truth to be told, even though I'm somewhat disappointed in the final product, I still enjoy the album and listen to it without skipping songs. Here's my song-by-song review of the songs iTunes carries: Disconnected--Brilliant! This sample doesn't do it justice. Possibly the best song on the disc, and very loopable in your player. Tell the Girl--Initially annoyed me, but grew on me over time. Fun little raunchy song. Friends--Humorous break-up song that is great live but falls a little flat here. Uh-Oh--Oddly danceable with a partner. Draws on an older-sounding musical style but with a dirty little storyline. Quirky, but it works--it'll grow on you. So Much the Better & Better--Both of these songs are upbeat and fun, but hardcore fans will be disappointed at how similar they sound to a previous solo release. Can't Stay Here--Great song, but arrangement may be slightly off here. Still well worth listening to. Invincible--Kicking song, very loopable. High energy at its best! Be That Way--Charming little song, but it doesn't seem any different from the solo version already in my collection. Trouble--Good (not great, but better than OK) little sexy song. Senseless--Great song with a powerful message. This arrangement loses a little of the impact on the verses but holds up well on the chorus. I'd have been completely satisfied with the song if I hadn't heard Paul sing it solo and realized what got lost in this version; I still rate it among the top four on the album. Bad Girl--Also good. Not inspired, but still fun. It's a pretty good release--new fans will probably enjoy it more, and older fans will probably enjoy it with reservations.
  • Classic Cowboy Mouth

The final two tracks on this album are reminiscent of drummer/vocalist's Fred Leblanc's pre-CM band, Dash Rip Rock. Tracks like Tell the Girl, Uh-Oh, and Be That Way are classic Mouth, modern songs with classic riffs that render them new and familiar at the same time. So Much the Better is a clear departure for the band sonically, an uptempo number that wouldn't be out of place on a Jimmy Eat World album. Quietly, this album sneaks up on you and presents itself as one of the band's most complete works.
