The White Tape

Ingest and No. 2 are very Pink Floydy and scary. The rest of the album is phenomenal. Mainly for hardcore fans not newbies. If this is your first album don't judge phish based on this. Go listen to A Picture of Nectar and A Live One and you'll see what they're all about.

Alumni blues is a great song on this album. I'd say the best, along with antelope

Look...to all the neutral reviews and below...this is to be purchase only by Phish GEEKS. If you only have a mild interest in the band, go buy Nectar and freak out. I first owned this on a cassette in 1994 or so and though it is TOTALLY weird the embryos for many of the songs we enjoy to this day are here, and for that reason it is to be appreciated and honored. If they played A letter to Jimmy Page at a show I would probably cry lol...

Run Like An Antelope is one of Phish's best songs. Besides that song, not much else on this album.

I know my opinion is a little bit unprofessional considering I'm a new fan of Phish, but based on what I've heard this album is amazing! Keep in mind though I'm a huge psychadelic, Progressive and Avant Garde rock fan so the weird babblings on here don't bother me in the least, they actually make me enjoy the album more (I listened to Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield on the same day for this first time) . I know Phish's work primarily consists of Grateful Dead like Jam rock and what not, but I really would've liked to have seen what it would be like if they continued down this experimental path. I know I still have a LOT to hear by Phish, but based on this album I know I'm in for a treat. Don't let other die hard Phish fans sell you short and say this album is not very good, because if you jave a keen taste for experimental music than this album is an excellent listen.

The White Tape is only for desperate Phish fans. If you have EVERYTHING Phish has ever recorded, know every track intimately and have no interest in any other band, then maybe this is for you. Otherwise, steer clear. You'll be glad you did.
