This project is one of her best. Working with various producers and artist seemed to bring out the best in her on this project. Add to your collection.....DBP

With C.K. Chaka recorded songs by both Brenda Russell (Soul Talkin' – later recorded by Brenda for the sadly overlooked early 90's EMI album of the same name) and Eternity written by Prince for Sheena Easton and originally recorded by Sheena for her No Sound But A Heart album from 1986 - which never got an official US release, though Eternity was released as a single.

I remember buying this cd when it first came out and I still have it. There are wonderful moments on this cd and I've often wondered why it didn't sell well. I am really into departures and two standout tracks for me are the standards "At The End Of A Love Affair" which features George Benson on guitar and vocal licks and the closer "I'll Be Around" which features a more "straight ahead" jazz arrangement. Prince aided Chaka on this album and for some reason is the kiss of death for a lot of artists he supported, I mean, look at Sheena Easton, Wendy & Lisa and Vanity 6. Overall though, this cd overlooked as it was is still an essential body of work regarding Chaka's catalog.

This recording is one of those where listening intensely to subtle nuances and vocal delivery are needed. There are absolute moments of vocal genuis that Chaka delivers on this recording. The standards are sung with vocal phrasing that hint back to Billie on Lady in Satin, yet there is no denying that the voice you are hearing and the emotions you are feeling are none other than Chaka Khan. A true legend and a voice that is by far leaps and bounds beyond anything we hear today!
