Reviews

  • A true masterpiece.

One of my very first CD purchases was from this band. At the time the Seattle grunge scene was really hot but the bands that were huge that were supposed to represent it in my opinion were rock bands with one massive exception. Nirvana was a true grunge band. Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice in Chains and Smashing Pumpkins were rock bands. The Grunge bands were Dinosaur Jr., MudHoney, Jesus Lizard, Sonic Youth and Screaming Trees. There is a lot more I didn't mention but this is not about them. This is about one of the greatest rock albums to ever made. 91 was a real hot year for music. Everybody was laying it on the line. I have always loved this album and it has only aged like wine. The guitar here is piled to the ceiling. The influences get completely lost at times and what you get is a band at the height of their powers making the best record any of them would ever make. Never buy singular songs off here. It was meant to be listened to as a whole. If you want your mind blown…this will do it.

I have to honestly say, this is the best album that Screaming Trees made. The music, as well as the lyrics are well thought out, well written, and well played. Every song on the album is great.

  • Better than that other overrated grunge "masterpiece"

This is easily the best album that came out of the grunge era(just ahead of Superunknown). Every song on this record is fantastic, with cuts like Story of Her Fate, Before We Arise, Bed of Roses, Time For Light, and the title track being the highlights. I have always thought that Nevermind was overrated, and Uncle Anesthesia, Diary, Badmotorfinger, Superunkown, and Dirt were the best albums to be released out of Seattle in the 90's. Buy this album and you will not be disappointed!

Man, I had this TAPE on repeat for most of 1991 and, as disservice to myself, have not listened to it since. What an underrated, lost gem from the 90s. Also, check out Lanegan's version of MAN IN THE LONG BLACK COAT on the "I'm Not There" soundtrack!!!
  • Mark Lanegan is the man.

This album's great. "Disappearing" is one my fav Trees songs. Mark Lanegan's voice is one of a kind and it's one that needs to be appreciated by more people. Not enough recognition here.I have all his Solos and I dig the Queens of the Stone age material.

Ok to start out with my review i will say this is a good album every song is good with the exception of one or 2...but the main reason behind this review is that i would like to see some of Screaming Trees' SST albums on here after recently noticing that the Soundgarden collection on iTunes is complete, i understand that Soundgarden is more famous but I would really like to see more Screaming Trees here

This CD truly represented the rough, disconnected sound of the time. Sweet Oblivian was too "poppy" for my taste and Dust was a sign of their maturing as a band. I was in the music scene in Seattle in the early 90's and as a lover of the grunge era of music. I would say that this CD ranks in the my top 10 of the time.
  • Buy This Record

This is the kind of stuff you can put in and just play it through, but if you like to jump around, then Bed of Roses and Lay Your Head Down totally rock. My favorite Trees Record.
