I’ve never understood why this movie got such poor reviews! I’ve always loved it. George Clooney is amazing and the story is intense.

For those unaware, this is based on a novel called A Very Private Gentleman. This is a slow burn kind of film with some good acting and great scenery. In the end though you’re better off reading the book, the adaptation to film didn’t improve the already fine material.

If you want to watch a great movie thriller that does not have marvel comic heros and cliche hollywood plot than I highly recommend this movie. It's an adult thriller. Dark. Engaging. Beautiful Italian scenery. Good action and acting. Be aware this is not a typical movie. Reminds me of a 1960's thriller shot in Europe. Outstanding film if you have a brain.

Finally got to Italy in 2014. One has to appreciate and see the real Italian culture to understand parts of this film. The people who did not like this film have probably never been to Europe their loss. Stay in USA. Watch the film!

Reminisce of the old Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alan Delon Movies, I enjoyed it immensely
  • Most Realistic

When most people think of assasins and spies, they think more of an ostentatious and extravagant protagonist. In most movies they were portrayed that way because shootouts and car chases are entertaining. However if this was the true nature, they wouldn't be very good at thier jobs. This movie is more intellectual, in which the viewer has to understand more of the social norms and hidden contexts that people in this profession experience. Of course there is action in the movie but in real life, people aren't usually running around doing the majority of things you see in an action movies. If you want that don't watch a spy and hitman movie. This is probably the most realistic as you can get when it comes to hitmen. Watch it and just form your own opinion, who knows you might even like it.
