Reviews

  • The leap from Ringo to Joe.

The 1983 Ringo Starr album produced by Joe Walsh got me hooked forever on his guitar riffs. "Got Any Gum" has the synth version of the Ringo/Joe song "In My Car" which was originally intended to be Ringo's first single from "Old Wave". I liked this album (in this case cassette) that I picked up at the food store on a whim since it was cheap and turned out to be a perennial listen. "Time" and "Memory Lane" are real standouts. For $7.99 it is worth it. Prepare for the synths. It's 1987.

The title of one of my favorite songs in this album says it all, it's "fun". Joe Walsh was (and still is now) an amazing guitarist and was one of the goofiest (I have the Eagles Farewell Tour on dvd, the only concert i've laughed while watching thanks to Joe). Overall the tunes on this album are fine, they're not hits, but they are all on the same level. Its just a fun a cool album to listen to.
  • Great Guitar/Rock Collection

Joe Walsh is one of the most underrated (and he's not rated that low, in any case) solo artists out there. Joe probably yawns at "ratings" anyway. Obviously, the Eagles saw what he has. For those who like guitar rock, he's got "the sound". His band is tight, keyboards and bass so-o fine. This collection has several good songs, including "In My Car", "Malibu", and "No Peace in the Jungle." Music with rock-and-roll soul. A++++

Reading the main review for this, I feel the reviewer forgot who Joe Walsh is, or at least was, at the time he made "Got Any Gum?"...a goofball with a guitar and a load of talent. And that is what to expect from this album, goofy talent. If you are looking for deep meaning and something to enlighten you...keep looking. If you are looking for something light, funny, silly, goofy, melodic, breezy, etc., then this could be the album for you. Also, it should be noted, that while most albums from 1987 were heavy on synth, this is not. It has the warm feel of four guys in a garage, with their old beat up amps, on a Saturday afternoon, choosing to belt out a few tunes and drink a few beers instead of mowing the lawn. (Note: the release date shown is 2005. That is the re-release date. The album was orginally released in 1987.)
