Its a little ironic that the weaker of the two "Eddie & The Cruisers" movies was the one with the stronger soundtrack. Eddie I was slightly hampered by the fact that it had to be era specific(Early 60's) when it came to writing and recording the music. There were some gems(On The Dark Side and Tender Years) and it introduced the world to John Cafferty & Beaver Brown's music. And while there was a similarity to Bruce Springsteen's basic sound, John and the band took that sound in a different direction than The Boss did. They were neither copies or clones. But Eddie II was a much more modern, fuller collection of songs. "Open Road", "Pride And Passion" and "Emotional Storm" were good solid tracks while "Maryia" was a deeper sounding composition that rocked nonetheless. A real jam was "Garden Of Eden" with guitars that don't evoke Eddie Van Halen but demands that it be played LOUD. On the ballad side, there's the sentimentally determined "Matter of Time" and hopeful NYC song. The movie itself was a noble attempt at bringing Eddie Wilson's story home. The only weak area was the sloppy retconning of the origianl story (In flasback). But the music here carries the film and makes it enjoyable all the more.

Forget Eddie... John Lives!!! I will never get bored of this music. Just a shame the movie blocked the John Cafferty name.
