  • Give it a few listens

It took a few listens but this album has really grown on me. Is the best album they've ever made? No at least not in my opinion but they have made some great albums so that's a harsh criticism. Give it a shot it'll grow on you

They're best album since their debut work. Why let your record label control the music you can record? Glad they got out of that contract so they could be who they really are! Great effort!
  • Their best.

Their older stuff is great, but they took this one to a whole new level. On previous records there was always a song or two where I thought "The groove is cool, but the songs just doesn't seem to be there", but not on this one. The production is interesting, the songs are great, I think it's their best by a lot. Definitely check it out!
  • Opened My Eyes to the Black Crowes

This album opened my eyes to what a great heavy blues rock & roll band the Black Crowes are and can be - when they decided to focus on heavy rock instead of bluegrass music and get over their petty differences. I lost track of the Black Crowes after buying and loving their first album "Shake Your Money Maker" back in the 90s. I never bothered to check out any further music from them, until I happened upon the album "Lions" in 2005. It completely blew me away to the point that I bought every Black Crowe album that I could find - new or used - because this album made me a HUGE Black Crowes fan. "Lions" is highly underrated and underappreciated, and my opinion is because it was very experimental for the Crowes. I consider it one of the finest heavy rock albums of any band since the 1970s. I rank this up there with Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, Pearl Jam 10, and any other rock or grunge album from the 90s and early 2000s. Great stuff!

This seems to be the forgotten BC album, but it shouldn't be. Well, none of them should be, but this one has great stuff from top to bottom. Soul Singing & Lay It All On Me are two of my all-time favorites.

This is an American rock masterpiece. This album is creative, confident, and a vital part of this bands history. The best turn of the century rock album. I wish the band loved it as much as I do. Would be great if they rereleased it, with another album title! People would eat it up. Give this album a shot, it is that good.

I don't know why this album gets short shrift. It's like everyone made up their minds to shrug their shoulders at Lions, but it's personally one of my faves. The open alone will clear anyone's fog, but "No Use Lying" and "Cypress Tree" are perfect gems. It's funny how time and persistence has made the Crowes one of America's few rock and roll treasures.

I might be biased, but I love the Black Crowes and this album is no exception. Midnight From the Inside Out, Lickin', Greasy Grass River and Sould Singing rock as hard and move as soulfully and gracefully as anything the band has done. Nothing will ever be The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, but this comes close in my estimation. If you love the Crowes, you already have this. If you don't...GET IT NOW!
