Look to the Rainbow: Live In Europe

Ok this is one of my favorite albums ever. It’s just incredible. But the big news here is that as far as I can tell this download version restores the original songs that got truncated in the tape and CD versions. So a wonderful way to relive the album as it was meant to be heard.

Al left nothing on the table with this one. I was 12 when this came out my mom took me to the record store to buy EWF (all n all) it was sold out the store’s owner had Look to the rainbow on (we got by) I purchased this album and was hooked from there. I went back a week later and bought All n All......

I wish Al Jarreau was still here his perfomances was on the money what a great singer he was R.I.P Al Jarreau

This album really expresses Al's talent and pure joy for entertaining. Lucky to have seen him in concert in l970's. He was wonderful and so authentic. There is no one like him and I hope he knows how much his fans will love him till the end of time.

Al Jarreau passed away a couple of days ago. I first saw him at Painters Mill in Maryland. He started from fantastic to incredible, but when he took a sip from a cup, someone thought it was wine or harder stuff. The crowd picked that up. He then motioned a young woman to step up to the stage and taste it, then she admitted to the crowd it was water. The next time I saw him was at the Paramount with my manager and a girl I was close friends with. We saw the 7 pm show. My manager asked if there was another show. Yes at 10pm. It is sold out. My manager said next time, we get tickets for both shows. Never go to do that. The last time I bought tickets for a couple as a wedding present. He performed at Chateau STE. Michelle. The only regret I have is that TAKE FIVE off the LOOK TO THE RAINBOW LP where he does a great scat run leading up to the song that is cut from the CD. If you are a fan and don’t have this, you should. This album is the purest example of why Al Jarreau was such ground breaking jazz artist . Live, simple arrangements at the dawn of synthesizer use when it embellished the arrangements-- not overwhelm them. Hard to believe it was record in 1976-77. How I wish I could jump in a time machine and be in the audience at Uncle Po’s in Hamburg when he sang ”Look to the Rainbow “ .This album is the next best thing.

This album/CD sounds as fresh today played as if it was recorded last week!!!!!!!! Al was in his prime and it shows here. Simply OUTSTANDING!!! His voice takes on the sound of instumentation. Nothing else need be said. May be his best effort ever!!!

I may not be as old as some of these other people. However, I know good music when I hear it. I first got introduce to AJ recently when I shazammed his song "Burst With The Dawn" off the radio. At first I was going to purchase just the one song. Then I listened to the whole album and decided I had to have the whole thing. His lyrics and the instrumentals are strong and powerful. Anytime music can shake you to your core and touch your heart, you know that it is truly a beautiful thing, and this cd is just that beautiful and breathe taking. You don't find too much music like this nowadays.

This album is off the chizaamm! I was introduced to this album by my first love back in 1977 (I get the willies just thinking about it) and it is the only one, imho, that truly show Jarreau at his finest. The later stuff is okay but it panders to crass commercialism. "Look to the Rainbow" feels fresh and real. "Could You Believe (in a Dream)" is da bomb!! Listen to this song with someone you love and I guarantee you will go deeper in love (yeah, I'm a romantic). Just played this album two days ago and I was struck how good is the album. WOW!!!

Al Jarreau, dontcha know? My goodness how this recording takes me back. It was the summer of 1981. I had been livin' large with a lovely lady (16 years my senior) in Dallas. But now it was time to move on. Just one year removed from the UNreal world, a.k.a., college, I packed what little I had at that point in life into a crappy little Honda I'd bought to get back to Atlanta. This was IT as far as tuneage was concerned. The radio in the car was worthless, but the cassete player worked well enough. This is the album that made me a lifelong Jarreau fan.
