Sure, "What I Like About You" gets all the air play but that isn't even the best song on here. Front to back, this thing just rocks. One of the more underappreciated 80's bands and one of the more underappreciated albums of that era, along with the Plimsouls "Everywhere at Once." Both albums had that one hit but they quickly got lost in the shuffle of the second British Invasion of the early, mid 80's. Still sounds as fresh as it did when I was in high school...love it.
  • 60's Garage with New Wave Flavoring

An energetic and speedy drive-through, featuring songs that sound both from an earlier time (60's garage band) and exactly what the 80's New Wave was all about. Nothing better exeplifies this spectrum than the harmonies and retro sound of "Tell it to Carrie" to the harder and faster "She's Got Everything" and "When I look in Your Eyes". Of course, the killer "What I like About You" never gets old no matter how many commericals who feature its dance-y melodies and bluesy harmonica try to dull it's edge. The album is pure fun, spirit and, most of all, Rock and Roll!
  • This album reminds me of U of F in 1981

And all the pretty girls that I had the pleasure to know. You know who you are. Great album, very early Beatles!
  • Classic (If Homogeneous) Power Pop

The Romantics fashioned a classic power pop sound out of the post-Revolver/early Kinks sound that was steeped in catchy, twangy guitar with a melodic approach to the vocals and harmonies. This album has some wonderful, forgotten moments like "Tell It To Carrie" and "First In Line". "What I Like About You" is an unrefutable classic, but that does not forgive the Romantics for re-writing it three or four times on this album. In fact, for all intents and purposes, "When I Look In Your Eyes," Hung On You," and "Gimme One More Chance" sound almost EXACTLY like "What I LIke About You," a song that is really just an inspired reinterpretation of the Kinks "You Really Got Me Now". I'd recommend buying track by track to escape the general homogeneity of this album.

I had an old "In Heat" cassette that I played for impromptu 20-minute workouts when the TV show wasn't on, awesome. This is just as good. The Kinks cover "She's Got Everything" may even beat the original. And when you are talking about the Kinks, that's saying something!
  • Just one song? No way!

I bought this album when it first came out....long before "What I LIke About You" was a hit. "When I Look In Your Eyes" was the song I bought it for. I played the first side of the album until I wore it out. About 5 years later, Budweiser made "What I Like About You" a hit. That's when I flipped it over and discovered a gem like "Till I See You Again". If you're here to download just the one song, that's a mistake. You owe it to yourself to discover the whole record.
  • Flattering comparison

I could be wrong but the energy they brought to their early albums reminded me of the spirit behind the early Beatles albums. Something more - the pop hooks and harmonies are probably learned from British Invasion bands. I'm curious why Motown did not have more of an effect on this Detroit band's music.
