I love the Bangles.... though I cannot play Walk like an Egyptian. Just like I cannot play Stairway to Heaven.

EVERY song on here is good and worthy of listening to over and over again. Loved this album back in the day and still do.
  • Michael Steele and "September Gurls"

One of the great - and I mean GREAT - rock/pop interpretations, bar none. Find the 1986 video (Pittsburgh), where Michael Steele just slays it (September Gurls, that is). Man, could they play live in their heyday. The most soulful voice in the group. It pains that she permanently left the band in 2004. Be thankful that she regrouped with the others for about 4-5 years which led to "Doll Revolution." Ah, Michael. . . . . . . . . .

The group took some cues off the Beatles and got a lot of it right with some gorgeous harmonies,a little overproduced on some songs with mediocre leads but hey ,it's pop not blues.the Big Star cover of September Gurls was a great idea and decent song but where the crappy bagpipe emulation for the lead guitar came from I have no idea, a clean soaring lead would have made it a hit or at least a mentionable B side. Overall it's a pleasant enough album and stands up to the test of time well.I could listen to it two or three times in one day and still like it at the end of the day.

Don't just get the big hits like Manic Monday and Walk Like an Egyptian. The rest of the album is strong, especially "If She Knew What She Wants", "September Gurls" and "Following."
  • 80s meets 60s---with wonderful results

I'm listening to this album right now, on vinyl at that, and it has stood the test of time. A wonderful merging of 60s Beatles/Beach Boys melodies and 80s New Wave, with a bit of 70s bubblegum thrown in for good measure. One star docked for the overplayed "Walk Like an Egyptian," one of the biggest hits of 1986 and possibly the worst song on the record. Best songs on the album are "If She Knew What She Wants," a song I've played for several ex girlfriends, Prince's "Manic Monday" (another big hit), and "Let it Go." 80s fans should snap this album, CD or iTUNES download up........sorry Go Gos, but the Bangles get my vote as the female rock band of the 80s.

For me this album is close to perfect. The big hit, Walk Like An Egyptian, is the worst song here. It's a fun, interesting single, but it's my least favorite track. There are songs like September Gurls, which was not released as a single, that are so much better. If She Knew What She Wants was a single, and didn't do as well as it should have as it's the best thing on this wonderful album. Every track is a winner. How many albums from the mid 80's can you say that about ?

Seductive harmonies, crystal clear guitars and straightforward drum beats; this is just good pop/rock music. These girls were (are) really good musicians and better entertainers. You will like all of these songs and you will love a few of them.
