I need to listen again. I know the word we are using is loungey. Im surprised they didn’t do something different with the tour and tour with this album. I’ve seen some of the set lists and it looks just like a list of random past songs. Although everyone seems to have, enjoyed. Im listening and I don’t hear the lyrics, I hear the background instruments and music. It kinda sounds like his just talking through the album, slowly. With music in the background, as if in a car. Im gonna go listen again.

Songs to slit your wrist too. Generic lounge music to fall asleep too.

Concept album about a jaded, aging musician dealing with the idea that his career and/or relevance may be nearing its end and the absurdity of it all. Cliches and hyperbole incoming: this album is pure genius in so many ways. You either get it or you don’t. It took me more than a few listens to like it. The more I listen the more I appreciate and LOVE it! For the naysayers, maybe learn to manage your infallible beliefs and expectations.

I think this album is absolutely amazing! Watched them perform some of these songs on Jools Holland and I was completely mesmerized!

Seems like every some is the same he’s literally talking not singing. They need to go back to there roots of why they started making music

This album is better than the previous one, but, it is still a disappointment. Alex is trying to be something that he is not. He is a rock singer, an out and out rock singer. His voice is suited to rock songs. The last two albums scream of him trying to be a Frank Sinatra style crooner. He is not a crooner. It works okay, but, it is a far cry from their 2006-2010 peak.

The critics showered their last record, Tranquilizer Base Hotel & Casino, with praise, while the fans showered them with “WTFs”. Well, guess what? The band took the critics seriously, and produced another ill-conceived loungey, hilariously bad elevator music album. No, this is not The Coral, The Zutons and The Heavy of the Mid 00s, who understood the limitations of white-pasty English guys trying to do soul records, these guys ignored all that, and thought they could pull it off. They thought they did the first time, when the critics were kissing their rears. Someone needs to talk some sense back to these guys, they have already lost a few fans over this.

Great album. The greedy fan in me wishes it was a bit longer though. The “fans” complaining that it’s not AM should just go back to listening AM and move on with their lives. It’s nice to see they are not resting on their laurels and just repeating the same album.

Been a huge fan since the beginning, but this is nonsense. Seriously, who would voluntarily listen to this multiple times?
