After reading "Pops" by Terry Teachout I knew I needed to listen to this music. I did and found it to be a delight. He mentions it as a great album and it is.

There are a couple periods that capture the incredible musicality and power of Pop's trumpet. His hot five stuff and this recording! His horn in the 50's had decades of sound with each note. Get some good speakers and a nice cigar.....enjoy this one!

Louis Armstong at his best.  This is not a boring collection of Louis Armstrong's pop tunes, this is Louis playing his trumpet and singing turn of the century blues written by the great W.C. Handy.  This was Louis Armstrong's very first long player and with the great care that was taken in remastering this masterpiece you wouldn't believe it was recorded in the early 50s. Listen to the samples and see for yourself.
