Description

Academy Award® winner Robert Duvall headlines this touching story of a down-and-out country singer named Mac and the young widow (Tess Harper) he meets in a small Texas town. But as their relationship blossoms, Mac’s years of hard living resurface when his music star ex-wife (Betty Buckley) appears in a nearby town, bringing his estranged daughter (Ellen Barkin) with her. Will Mac’s painful past lead him toward an uncertain future – or will he find a way to move past his sorrow and start a fresh new life?

Beresford's placement of the breeze throughout is a comfort. My favorite movie.

I Love "Tender Mercies" for great acting & great country music, especially sung by Robert Duvall! ❤ Duvall is known for his great acting but not many know of his fantastic voice. It is a great treat to enjoy both his great skills in this Movie!!

I used to watch this movie almost weekly when I was learning how to cry again. I've gone from the frying pan into the fire trying to relate to a love who is diseased with alcoholism, some pretty amazing and wonderful people have this problem. Tess Harper is the Alanon poster girl without even knowing it, her living kindness is the message and the only answer, she showed tough love and boundaries, yet wrestled with the jealousy and sadness of the one who loves an alcoholic, still drawn to the relief. My heart broke, even for the ex-wife who was an enabler with her own dis-ease. This movie says it all, timelessly and with dignity and grace. I have played the movie, sat a tape recorder next to the TV and recorded the "Ladder" song to play on a cassette tape over and over when I needed to boost my sense if hope. (Silly me)

This is a beautiful film about redemption and coming to life again. Terrific story, superb acting, and a fantastic soundtrack (which, sadly, has never been commercially available). What's more, it's told in a gentle, almost fable-like way and I'm always a little sad when it ends.

My Dad played "Sonny" in this. Great movie, great actors. One of Duvall's best!

I love this movie. It's a helpful reminder of the power of grace and compassion in dealing with human frailty and inexplicable loss. Great imagery. Not oscar material but always a great watch.
