Description

Winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress (Jessica Tandy), and receiving more nominations than any other movie that year, this is the touching tale of an unusual quarter-century friendship between an eccentric elderly Southern Jewish matron and her loyal, black chauffeur. Starring Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman ("Million Dollar Baby," "The Shawshank Redemption") and Dan Aykroyd ("Ghostbusters"), co-starring Patti LuPone (TV's "Life Goes On") and Esther Rolle (TV's "Good Times") and directed by Bruce Beresford ("Tender Mercies"). The Today Show says it "comes close to perfection...to see it once is to remember it forever..." Selected by the prestigious American Film Institute as one of the 400 greatest American films of all time.

Both actors just played the most truthful story about an elder Jewish women and a black men building up a wonderful friendship back in those days. I've seen this film many times and I discover something new and pretty much every time. The dinner at Martin Luther King was a precious scene. Very good job.

This film displays the very best screenwriting, directing, cinematography, musical score, and especially acting that can be found in the industry. It is a must-see for audiences and students alike.
  • Southern Movies Forever!

I absolutely love this movie! It was a bit of a shock to see miss daisy( Jessica Tandy) to be so self centered after watching sweet Ninny Threadegood on fried green tomatoes (also Jessica Tandy) I feel as though old southern movies really hit home for me because my mama was raised in South Carolina. She always taught us to be polite good children but living in West Virginia we never had to say sir and ma'am. Well, after being lucky enough to go to the south twice last summer I think I will bring and give southern charm to the north. Over all miss daisy is one if not the best movie I ever saw!!
  • A Fictional Story, but, Unfortunately, Very True!

I had never seen this movie before renting it with iTunes. I had heard about it for a long, long time. I recently saw Jessica Tandy in "The Birds" and that spiked my interest in seeing another of her movies. Obviously, she is much older here, but just as entertaining. While reading the Wikipedia story, I was particularly interested in the timeframe and the subject of the story. I know this was a fictional story, but, I am sure it was typical of the time, which is the sad part. This story shows just a minute segment of what life was really like, but it obviously puts a touch of sugar coating on it throughout the movie. I think it got harder and more touching toward the end. It was so sad that so much was lost in friendship between those two people until the end. Why do people waste so much time lost in all their egos and self-centerness, only to, maybe, make last minute changes at the end when they realize how stupid they have been? Morgan Freeman was dynamite. I read that he was in the same role for the Broadway play. Good for him! That was a pivotal role for him. Unfortunately, the film stopped about ten minutes toward the end. I could not get it to move past that point, but I read in Wikipedia was happened.

Quite simply, this is one of the most wonderful films I've ever seen on friendship. The two main characters build a friendship over many years based on mutual trust and faithfulness and respect. By the end they no longer notice racial or social differences--simply their humanity and the way they cherish each other. This movie makes me smile many times throughout with lots of sweet, wonderful, and funny moments. I highly recommend it!
