  • Okay for a first album

I really want to like this more, but when you mix this album in with Michael Buble, Tony Bennett, Steve Tyrell and even Rod Stewart's raspy voice - Johns Stevens sounds bored. My favorite cut is the remake of Maroon 5's "This Love". I wonder if now theat he has matured if his voice has more feeling and depth?

This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a little girl. I wanted a copy for my iPod and listened to every version available. This is the best. No exception. It's all about the song and John Stevens' voice allows the song to be the centerpiece. Smooth, uncomplicated, just plain beautiful.
  • No doubt talented.....

What's both beautiful... and a little disappointing about this album is that it's what you expected. John Stevens playing it safe. A nice Sinatra-esque piano-frolicking jazzy-dazzy album that will demand some respect, but won't stand out. I can't help but feel that there's another place that Stevens and his voice could go and no one has the courage to find it. But if this is where his first album is going to settle, than it might be where he'll be stuck. In one single-dimensional genre never to move beyond. It might have worked for Sinatra. But we've been there and done that. If you're a mighty fan of the adorable John Stevens, than by all means purchase away. You will be satisfied.

So John Stevens proved on American Idol that he can only really do one type of music. So naturally that's the type of album he comes out with. And it works. Really well. If you're a fan of the Sinatra/Martin/Rat Pack stuff, you'll be a fan of this, too.
  • Awesome!

I wanted to find a modern version of cool old jazz songs. As someone once said, "Eureka!"

I really do like this...I didn't in 2004 when he was on American Idol, but this album is really very, very good. A little old-timey, but I can appreciate that. He is very talented, but in a different way than most contestants on American Idol.
  • 2 stars is good enough

I give it to stars because I don't think it is horrible but I do not like it. I consider this cd an album that should not have been published. I liked him when they first saw him on idol and I think he could have done better. He has more talent then this. I am proud of him for getting this far. Way to go.
  • a good listen

you cannot compare him to sinatra, but you can't say he is bad, everyone who has written a 1 or 2 star review, simply has no respect for the founding music of modern american society, Jazz.
