This album so full of Jazz/ Rock Fusion and at its very best. The music contain within is masterfull and colorful. I use to sit in my room and listen to Birdland, Teen Town and listen to the Masters of the Bass, Jaco Pastorious. The album is superb, but when CD's came out, you can hear every nuiance and flavors of every note played in the music. My advice to you you all who read this is to listen to this with your Headphones and buy the CD. With itunes, the high end sound is reduced and the Bass is muffled somewhat thanks to the internet capacity. Also, if you like Jaco, get all his albums that he is on and enjoy. Especially if you can find the CD's. From itunes? Only as a last resort!

This is by far Weather Report's most approachable album. It has a sense of humor filled with bass funk led by super sideman the late Jaco Pastorius. Teen Town is simply the best air guitar bass lick ever invented. The hauntingly hypnotic A Remark You Made with Jaco's stunningly somber bass line is hopelessly addictive. Of course, Birdland is a blast and the rest of the album, while not much to write home about from Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul has a field day with his electronically induced funky keyboards. This is my all time favorite with no 19 minute endless repetitive choruses like in Sweetnighter or Black Market. Get this one and love it forever!

I heard this whole record while in High School when it came out. It was heavily played on the radio when released, especially Birdland. What's even more striking than the strength of every song is how they were created. All of the music here is broken down to enjoyable pop-Jazz ditties with excellent musicianship and creative compositions. It rarely happens with near-fusion related music. This is one of those instances. A timeless classic. Jaco Pastorious' bass playing is masterful.
