I never paid much attention to Joe Satriani until Chickenfoot came out. Now I am a big fan of both. Plus it is nice to hear more of Michael.

I love this album. Plain and simple.
  • Who does Hagar think he is?

The title of this album is an obvious attempt to poke fun at the failed Van Halen III. In my opinion, it would be admirable of Sammy Hagar to recognize that without Van Halen, the world would have forgotten who he was years ago, once the speed limit was raised to 65. This album is reminiscent of the cheese rock that Sammy Hagar’s career was built upon prior to Eddie Van Halen calling upon him to join Van Halen in the early 80’s. Chad Smith, you should be ashamed of yourself for even agreeing to be a part of this crap, your involvement is a negative reflection upon The Red Hot Chili Peppers. On a positive note, if anyone on the planet earth liked Sammy Hagar pre Van Halen, his lyrics have regressed to songs concerning cars and driving them. Furthermore, you should enjoy the simplistic music which accompanies these childish lyrics.

There are some great songs on this album! The harmonies on 'Devil' are just Sammy and Michael Anthony at their best. Joe Satriani sounds like a million different guys on this album, IMO.

Well I guess Van Halen can breathe a little easier. Sammy can't sing anymore either. The music is top shelf. The background vocals by MA remind me of old Van Halen. But Sammy screams more and not the cool scream either. Worth buying and listening to if you just have to get a Van HAGAR fix. But it won't last long on the playlist.

I heard about this band through being a big fan of Joe Satriani's albums and a casual fan of Van Halen. I was curious how Sammy and Joe would sound together and well...as the song says...this album is just "Alright, alright, alright, alright". The instrumentals are good as I hoped they would be but the lyrics...meh. The lyrics are SO cheesy. Sammy doesn't sound bad vocally but you'd think musicians of this calibur could come up with something much more intelligent. If you like good guitar and don't mind cheesy songs, this is the album for you. Otherwise (and no offense to Satriani, Van Halen, or Chickenfoot fans), avoid this like the plague.

I was skeptic at first from just listening to the sound bites. I finally caved in and I do not regret it. It's a fantastic recording. Even better than the first one. I'm a big fan of VH, but they are missing Sammy and Mickey big time.

It's a good strong record coming off the first. I agree the lyrics need work but this is good time Rock And Roll. It seemed like they are growing from the first and spreading their wings a little more (no pun intended). Again Sam and Mike bring the Van Hagar vocals to the sound (what do you expect that's just what they sound like together)? Stand out tracks to me are Last Temptation, Three And A Half Letters and Bigfoot just for fun. I would love to see what would/ will happen on the next outting. If you like the first you will like this one.

It's hard to give this album any stars as it fails on so many levels. The biggest flaw is Sammy's lyrics, which seem to detract from any musical potential. Add to that the uninspired overuse of interjected rock staples like "baby", "yeah", and especially "alright" (repeated about a million times in the song in which even the title is repeated). Then there's the phrase ripped off verbatim from Lynyrd Skynyrd "Don't ask me no questions..." Seriously, I just don't think much thought was put into the lyrics on this album, they tend to be sophomoric and only detract from moments on the record which might have shined otherwise. I know that the band has made a conscious effort to be different from the obvious behemoth that is known as Van Halen, but I feel that it has stymied their performance. Obviously Joe was heavily influenced by EVH and that reflected in much of his solo work, alas the only real strength he plays to in III (albeit briefly) is the blues (as heard in "Dubai Blues"). I understand the drive to be different from VH, but I really wish Joe would just cut loose and show what he is really good at. The album has some good moments... in my opinion, the strongest tracks are "Last Temptation", "Different Devil", and "Dubai Blues". But altogether, the album is a pretty weak composition, it seems to just be something the guys threw together in a couple of days in someone's garage.
