Reviews

  • Amazing CD!

This is a very wonderful CD of the standard pieces in the saxophone repetoire! It is actually Theodore Kerkezos (not Martyn Brabbins) who is the saxophonist on this CD.
  • Very Good

This "Martyn Brabbins" guy performes at an exellent level of interpretation and technique. His sound is also quite good. Almost to my 5-Star Level. I especially like the way he plays the Concertino Da Camera. An exquisite performance.
  • Woodwinds get their due!

Classical composers have tended to prefer strings to woodwinds, and as such there is a paucity of non-jazz literature that feautres the saxaphone and its instrumental relatives. This "best of" disc compiles the highlights of sax composition into single volume. Though thoroughly enjoyable, the disc's brief running time underlines the indifference with which woodwinds have been historically treated. Debussy and Ibert are the only "name" composers featured on the collection, but their sterling contriubtions are equalled and surpassed by inclusions form lesser-knowns like Glazunov (his concerto in E-flat major is not to be missed). At $5.99 this disc is a real steal. Pick it up and diversify your sonic palette.
