Great party tape

I listen to the previews of this every once in awhile when I need a good laugh. The famous Bolton scoop and emotional voice crack get me every time. His falsetto sounds like an old lady, his diction sounds like he's singing while eating ice cream, and I can literally see the scratches in his voice. The Philharmonia and the soprano he uses make it that much worse, because they sound so polished. I feel like I'm listening to Ives, with two different pieces of music playing simultaneously. I'm glad he likes opera though.

Making the transition to opera from contemporary music is not a job for the faint of heart. Bolton does an adequate job. While not technically proficient, he makes the transition to opera better than Renee Fleming or Luciano Pavarotti did going the other way to modern tunes. Their efforts were flat and rather vapid.
Give Bolton a break for for his good effort!

Why? Good question. Why would a very talented singer of standards go out and make a fool out of himself by singing music that is TOTALLY over his head? For my friends who are amazed at his range and talent on this album, please note that Bolton does not sing in any key close to the originals. Also note that Bolton does not have a tenor voice. Bolton's smoky voice is perfect for standards like "When a Man Loves a Woman", or "Georgia on My Mind", but "Nessun Dorma"?! "Recondita Armonia"? "Celeste Aida"? Men spend their entire lives training to sing these songs. Bolton just comes off looking silly. I have a tremendous respect for Bolton, but this is wrong. Do the world a favor, if this is your secret passion, keep it a secret...sing these songs in the shower like the rest of us...

Just awful!!!
He does not have the voice, technique, or discipline it takes to sing these arias. Opera is such serious business, it's admirable the singers that have trained and trained for years to perfect their technique.... this is truly awful!

I have always enjoyed Bocelli, Lanza, Corelli, Caruso, and of course Pavarotti. I like pop music, too, but never could stand Bolton's rough, scratchy voice even though he could always hit high notes. I admire him on this album, though, because he does much better than most other pop singers could do, or better than most any people could do. No he won't get hired by the Met or LaScala, but his voice, to ME, is better on this kind of music than his pop songs where his voice is scratchy and gravelly. Even Bocelli sounds bad and rough when doing some pop music, so maybe it's the music, not the artist. Anyway, I'd buy some of these if they were available in the better quality iTunes Plus format.

this album was a joke and should've never been released . You'd expect an album like this by Josh Groban or Gino Vannelli ..but Michael Bolton!! come on it's like having a dentist giving you a "Root Canal" and you are forced to hear this album as he is shooting you with novicaine to become numb. but I have to admit Bolton can sing "Opera" alright... the best track is "Vesti la Giubba" from Pagliacci!!
I hope that Taylor Hicks wont take any advice from Michael Bolton...whatever you do Taylor stay away from doing an album like "My Secret Passion: The Arias" It was a bad Idea for Bolton and an even worse Idea for you ...!! Please Michael stick to doing albums like "Timeless: The Classics" and "Timless : The Classics vol. 2" and stick to the Genre of music that made you a success : Pop/Rock/Soul / AC stuff... set a better example for the people coming up in the industry..!! Okay!!)
