This choir is actually a made up of a majority of undergraduate students of all majors (not just music), and includes approximately only 10 grad students. The director of the choir and Eric Whitacre, composer of "Sleep", are close friends, and as the publishing editor for "Sleep", I'm sure the director knows from the artist what the tempo should be.

Just for clarity's sake - the choir is actually made up of mostly undergraduates with less than a dozen graduate students participating but to say they sound like a good high school choir is definitely ridiculous. Love the music!!

to respond to the previous reviews this is by far not a young choir, they are the post grduate program at UM and are a very experienced group of singers. as far as the distastefully fast opinion, it is just that, an opinion, the tempo in sleep is very tasteful if you knew the story behind that composition. to say they sound like a really good high school choir is a crazy statement and you both are obviously not or have never been in a top choral group.
  • How old are these singers?

They sound VERY young. Don't get me wrong, they have a great sound.. but they sound like a really good high school choir, and that's all.

My only problem with this album is that some of the selections, such as Sleep by Whitacre, are taken distastefully fast. This is a lovely choir, though, and definitely worth ten dollars
