Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris (Original 1968 Off-Broadway Cast)

First experienced this review in Boston 45 years ago. It holds up today and as wonderful as it was way back then.

Nothing like this. Worthy of Jacque Brel. After hearing this extraordinary work again, I heard old songs with new depth. Example is past over-played masterpiece by Dan Hill, "Sometimes When We Touch". wow.

If I wanted to here someone other than Jacques Brel sing his songs, I'll go to Scott Walker thank you very much. I know the French are flamboyant but jeeze.

However, I REALLY wish the iTunes staff would pay attention and stop listing the wrong people as "artists". I've seen Directors, Composers, etc all listed at various times in place of the actual performers. At least put up a large pic of the album cover, front AND back, so the buyer can see the accurate info!

I saw the show in England with this cast and yes it is Mort. I don't know who Wolfgang is. It's been over 40 years and I still love the music. My kids grew up listening to it and now my grandchildren will too!

I don't know why "Wolfgang Knittel" is listed. This has to be an error. Sample the songs and you'll see that it's definitely Mort, Shawn, Alice and Elly singing. Who would we contact to have these listings changed? Addendum: I had this album on vinyl way back in the day (only a couple years after its release), and the two missing songs mentioned by Rachydee by Elly Stone do not appear on it. I searched the songs "My Childhood" and "Last Supper" and found them listed by other performers in later productions of the play. I was not impressed by what I heard. It would have been nice to hear Ms. Stone sing them—she would have done them justice. The cassette Rachydee talks about must have been taken from the movie, not the original stage production.

Rachydee -Oh, thanks for letting me know that this version is with Elly Stone, I too am very confused by the use of Wolfgang Knittle!? I actually have an album (vinyl) with Mort Shuman & Elly Stone apparently from the "original motion picture sountrack". Was this a movie? Madeliene is also missing from this version -there were 26 songs originally. I saw 'jacques brel is alive...' as a play in a small theatre at the University of Chicago in the 70s. So glad I found this! The 1995 London version which my niece got for my birthday some years ago was a disappointment compared to this version.

The male leads in the original show were Shawn Elliot and Mort Shuman (as one can see on the album cover). Who is Wolfgang Knittel?

My parents saw this play with the original cast, when I was about three, and shortly thereafter purchased the soundtrack on eight-track tape. For years, I heard it almost every day in the car and at home. There was a long gap during which I didn't hear it (high school and college) and was thrilled to find it released on CD—which quickly went out of print—about nineteen years ago. I'm glad it's finally been re-rereleased. To this day, it brings back many memories and emotions. I've slowly turned my wife onto it, which is something of a mini victory. To rachydee who complained that "My Childhood" and "Last Supper" were omitted from the soundtrack, those two songs were not in the theatrical version: they only appeared later in the film version, hence its omission from the Original Cast Recording.

Elly Stone has the most wonderful, moving, haunting and unique voices in the biz. I love this album except my two favorite songs from the cassette are missing: My Childhood and Last Supper. Why would they cut them from the CD I know not, but it's criminal. Elly had a great record that's nowhere to be found. Anyone with influence: get it digitized?
