Even though the album was released in 1971 I think that all the songs hold up real well even after all these years. I think Richard Perry did a fine job in producing this record and really pulled Streisand into the 70's with some good contemporary music and with writers like Carole King, Randy Newman and Laura Nyro how could you go wrong? One of my favorite Streisand albums. For me standout songs are "Just A Little Lovin'" "No Easy Way Down" and the quirky but cute song "Hands Off The Man (Flim Fam Man). For the record, This Album went to #10 on the "Billboard 200" and the Single "Stoney End" went to #6. Buy the album I am certain you will enjoy it!

This is one of the first albums that I remember listing to when I was young. I absolutely loved ever song of this album. Album, gosh has it really been that long ago when there was vinyl? Stoney End maybe the hit of the album. It is the remake of Gordon Lightfoots "If You Can Read My Mind" that sends shivers up my spine and gives me goose pimples. It is hard to imagine any remake that can surpass the original - but it is with Barbra's style, grace and vocal range that make it possible. I highly recommend this album. Every track on this album will give your countless hours of pleasure enjoying one of the greatest singers of all time.

The iTunes Review writeup is exactly right. With this album, Streisand picked contemporary songwriters and showed she could do their stuff. Gershwin's nice, but now she was singing Gordon Lightfoot and Laura Nyro, Harry Nillson and Randy Newman and Joni Mitchell. Most people were not prepared for this album when it came out, this was a big left turn, but the public loved it and so did critics. She followed this with Barbra Joan Streisand, which also had songs NOT by Gershwin or Cole Porter. This may have been the year I got to vote for the Grammy Awards, so many decades ago, but it was easy voting for songs from Stoney End.

After her "Greatest Hits" summerized the first quarter of her career, Barbra shifted gears and went commercial, this lp is her first offering in the pop world and it's amazing. She must have liked Dusty Springfield because two songs, "Just A Little Lovin" and "No Easy Way Down" are from Dusty's "Dusty In Memphis," one of Dusty's best and the album is considered a classic. This lp isn't too much off the classic mark itself, all the songs are excellent and the arrangements compliment Barbra's maturing voice. The title track and lead single "Stoney End" made it all the way to number one on the charts, the single eclipsed the rest of the material here somewhat and given Barbra's release schedule of an lp every six months that may have prevented more singles being culled from this release which is sad, this album could have been a true classic if not followed up so soon. Still, it's a wondeful album and the remastering of this cd is excellent.

I just love this album. It is just so happy and fun but at the same time it has a very powerful message. The message of the world is troubled but "time and love everybody...dont let the devil fool ya" She was an icon then and now and always, she sure as hecck proved it here! No disapointment here!!
