  • Great Album!!

This is the kind of demo album I love to hear from Mac; different songs from the album that are beautiful, fun, and enjoyable in their own right. Old Dog Demos was a great example of having some beautiful songs from the album as demos but also adding unheard songs as well, some of which were my favorite (Trouble Believing and some of the instrumentals at the end). When Here Comes the Cowboy Demos came out, I was excited to hear the demo versions of those songs, but I was missing the songs that never made it on the album. Other Here Comes the Cowboy Demos gives you a whole 30 minutes of brand new music from Mac; raw, pure, simple, and overall amazing to listen to. “Powers Back On” is very similar to its finished product “Skyless Moon” which is sped up and without lyrics, but does include Mac singing gibberish. The beginning of the song includes and amazing lick on the guitar that I personally can not get over! “Out Of My Head” has a country groove and you can really tell from this song and a couple of others such as “Tommy” and “Velvet Johnny” that Mac from the get-go really felt like making an entire Cowboy themed album, which is fascinating to listen to in its really form. “Very Spooky” has to be personally one of my favorite instrumentals from Mac DeMarco in a very long time. It’s slow rate and high depth vibrato on the guitar makes it feel very, well, “spooky” but it includes great baselines, keys, and is overall enjoyable especially in time for Halloween. “Yap Man” notably has a very similar vibe to it as well. “Dave” which includes back ground rain, and “New You” are much slower and sweeter songs on the album. “Eyes On Me” “Amp Rental” are very up beat and fast paced, and the instrumentals on both are fantastic. “Seeing Red” is personally my favorite on the album. It has a very lo-fi, amp buzzing feel to it. The progression is great, the simplicity leaves room for the enjoyment of the song. I have to say this is a great demo album from Mac DeMarco, and honestly, could’ve been an album all on its own. Can’t wait to hear more from Mac!
