Like Balance of Power, Alone in the Universe, and others, current ELO sounds are still ELO-esq, but for those who grew up with them in the 70s/80s, we tend to miss the rich, string arrangements...still lots of thumpity bumpity sounds of rock but less orchestral. Still better than what today passes for music.

Jeff Lynne can still write catchy songs with hummable melodies and clever hooks. He's a master producer, as well: layering harmonies in old-fashioned yet timeless ways, and providing lush layers of sound. That being said, the iTunes reviewer was right on target in recognizing something missing in the one-man-band creation here and in the previous Jeff Lynne-as-ELO album. Bands (even those with studio musicians) can often create music that is greater than the sum total of their parts, because of subtle individual contributions the musicians bring. Lynne alone doesn't give his music a chance to breathe or evolve in any ways. We get what we expect, and nothing more. It's a shame he couldn't include former bandmates (some of whom who even toured with him!) to contribute to making a more organic record than he does here (and has done pretty much with exactly the same result of his "solo" (without the name ELO) albums. I like this and will root for its success, but it will not reveal much more upon future listens because of its inorganic creation.

Hopefully, two or three of these tracts will be included in Jeff’s next tour.

The title says it all. Such a perfect album of ELO tunes. Does not disappoint. So much ear candy. What a gift. Well done. Just lovely.

I’ve been an ELO fan since my pre-teens, still have every “album”, now in my 50’s I keep getting disappointed by Jeff Lynne. Ok, we know you can play all the instruments but until you get back to why I started listening to you in the first place, forget it. I miss the multilayered orchestrations of old. Now you’re just another guy strumming a guitar.
  • Wonderful!

Had the Beatles produced just one more album it would have probably sounded like this album.

I only wish Jeff Lynne has been releasing new music every 2-3 years for the past 30 years!
