this defins what I love about BC- its his playing, not the words or storys- the bare unmixed and singular songs fill more listening pleasure not found in the world of todays mixed studio saturations. music layed bare for all to hear-- delightful !

In case the previous comment wasn't clear enough: this is a purely instrumental record. Bruce Cockburn dropped out of Berkelee because his instructors just couldn't grok his picking style. To me, this album represents something of a doctoral thesis for his failed matriculation. It reminds me of that old anecdote about Segovia: when his associates worried about how much time he spent practicing in his old age, he replied, "I am beginning to see some improvement." I've watched Bruce Cockburn pick his National guitar live many times. I am starting to notice some improvement.

Cockburn's politics, lyrics and social conscience often obscure what a FANTASTIC picker and player he has always been.
