This movie epitomizes the adage that "you can never go home". In Theron's character's case...she should have adheared to that old adage. Lines were crossed and then towards the end, blurred to oblivion. Did Theron go back home to finish the final chapter, or was she trying to re-kindle an ol' flame? I'm so confused right now. Someone, please slap me. The reason that I rented this movie was because it was 'genre'ed' (new word?) as a comedy. If anyone thinks this is a comedy, dang, turn us onto your stash. OY. Aside from the crap of a storyline and misrepresentation of genres, the acting was good...it really was. Sigh.

5 stars for Charlize. Mavis's lack of self-perception begins to surface in the woods scene when Freehauf calls her a slut and she respond's, "I was just normal". The writing and casting is excellent. The bad customer reviews follow the same theme - I thought the movie was going to be a comedy but it was dark, depressing, blah blah blah. I also thought it was going to be funny, but my brain allowed me to readjust my expectations so I could give Young Adult the 5 stars it deserves.

When I watched this movie I thought it was the WORST movie ever. It's not funny. Doesn't have a good plot. And it's boring to watch. All this movie is, just her trying to get a boyfriend but she doesn't. 👎

Young adult is very complicated film and features a great performance by Charlize Theron. You can watch film only for her.

Hancock, Snow White and The Huntsman, and several more... Those movies are Charlize at her best. This movie had funny parts... But it kind of sucked.. Spoiler She cusses out the woman who married her high school sweet heart in front of a crowd. This honestly embarrassed me to the point of covering my face with my hands and pillow... This wasn't that good.. No offense Charlize but you've done better I can't believe how much it sucked, Im just SOOO happy I didn't buy it. It was a waste of $4.99

I've seen hundreds of movies literally!!! This was a waste of perfectly good film, actors & actresses, and the very expense to make this film is a gross misuse of resources. DO NOT BUY DO NOT RENT. iTunes Why!!!! I want a refund!!!

What I liked about it was the honesty of the script. Charlize Theron with crusty hung-over make-up, chugging a 2-liter of Diet Coke, and her sassy and frank conversations. It is the epitome of a mid-life crisis wrapped into a visit to a place she despised--which all led to her ultimate downfall. The irrationality of her decision to even return to Mercury and the ostentatious fantasy that she could actually achieve her overall plan made me devour this film. It was well put together with montage shots that spoke much of her personality and her period in life--it was actually all inspiring!

This movie was not funny at all. It is about a 37 year old depressed alcoholic.
